The weekly playoff point standings were released by the FHSAA on Tuesday. The playoff picture became clearer for large schools that are from Class 5A to Class 8A as district play concluded. All district champions in those classifications from South Florida automatically qualified for a top four seed in a region following Week 10 action.
The only exception in South Florida was District 16 for Class 8A in Region 4 where three schools Palmetto(40.88), South Dade(40.0) and defending Class 8A champion Southridge(38.86) all ended up with the same district record. All of them will have to wait for the final games of the regular season in Week 11 to determine which team has the highest average point total and is declared district champion.
Elsewhere in Region 4, #1 Columbus(41.44) was able to clinch District 14 with a victory over Coral Gables last week. #4 North Miami(35.63) in District 13 and #3 Belen Jesuit(37.13) in District 15 wrapped up district titles back in Week 9. #7 Miami(37.38) and #8 Homestead(34.63) complete the top eight.
Region 3 in Class 8A had three districts determined in Week 10 to be qualified. Deerfield Beach(39.6) took District 11 as they beat Piper and climbed from third to the top seed. Miramar(39.38) remained in second as they clinched District 12 with a victory over Western. Atlantic(38.0) topped Boca Raton to win District 10 and stayed in the fourth spot. Palm Beach Central(39.13) had already qualified for a spot in Week 9, although their rank fell from first to third. There were no changes for the next three wild-card teams with #5 Plantation(39.11), #6 Western(36.89) and #7 Seminole Ridge(36.44). Park Vista(34.88) dove from eighth to tenth while Douglas(35.5) landed at eighth and Monarch(35.13) in ninth.
All four Class 7A district winners in Region 4 were finalized last week. #1 St. Thomas Aquinas(40.75) captured District 14 as they beat Blanche Ely and took their sixth consecutive district title. #2 Dwyer(38.67) clinched their third straight District 13 title with a win over West Boca. Doral Academy(37.9), who won District 16 during Week 9, rose from fourth to third. West Broward(37.5) defeated Cooper City to take their first District 15 title and vaulted from out of the top eighth to fourth. The next four seeds are #5 Forest Hill(37.5), #6 Nova(36.89), #7 South Miami(35.13) and #8 Mater Academy(34.88) followed by #9 South Broward(33.8).
Class 6A in Region 4 already had two schools that captured title in Week 9 with Miami Northwestern(41.0) in District 16 and Dillard(35.33) in District 15. Top wild-card teams kept their rank as #5 Miami Central(40.6) defeated defending Class 6A champion #6 Carol City(37.5) last week. Norland(35.75) stayed in eighth with an upset victory last week over Miami Northwestern.
Defending Class 5A American Heritage(45.0) picked up another District 16 title in Region 4 as they beat Hallandale. Fort Pierce Westwood (33.63) took District 15 back in Week 9. Cardinal Gibbons(40.33) moved from fifth to sixth while Suncoast(36.33) continues to battle it out for a wild-card bid as the eighth seed.
In the small school classifications Pahokee(37.86) remained the top seed in Class 1A of Region 4 even though they were blanked by Cocoa last week. Region 4 of Class 2A became more competitive locally as Champagnat(38.57) went from third to second while Glades Day(35.43) climbed from a tie for the fourth seed with Community School of Naples(34.17) to being alone in fourth.
Things changed in Class 3A in Region 2. Oxbridge Academy(40.0) defeated Everglades Prep and moved from third to second. Kings Academy(39.71) moved down from second to third..
There were finally changes in the top four seeds for the first time in Class 3A of Region 4 since the inaugural playoff point system was introduced by the FHSAA after Week 6. Chaminade-Madonna(40.75) continued to roll at #1 with another win while the other three ranked teams lost last week. Benjamin(34.38) lost at Key West and dropped from second to fourth. St. Andrew's(33.13) was upset at home against Coral Springs Charter and exited from the top four from third to sixth. Everglades Prep(35.88) fell on the road to Oxbridge Academy, however they jumped from fourth to second. American Heritage(35.75) made a return to the top four as they leaped from sixth to fourth. Calvary Christian(33.71) remained in the fifth spot with one game left.
A major change happened in Region 4 of Class 4A as Glades Central(38.5) finally cracked into one of the top four positions with a victory over Cardinal Newman and went from fifth to fourth. University School(44.57) has command of the top spot. Key West(39.43) defeated Benjamin and holds the second seed while Monsignor Pace(38.57) stays in third. Gulliver Prep(35.43) dropped from fourth to fifth as Glades Central bumped them out of a playoff qualifying position. Booker T. Washington(33.78), currently ranked sixth, will not make the FHSAA playoffs for the first time in many years as they ended their regular season last week and beat Evans in Orlando.
