The Miami Heat fell to the San Antonio Spurs 117-100 at American Airlines Arena on Wednesday night. The Spurs have now won the past eight regular season games against Miami(2-2). The Heat and Spurs have won a combined eight NBA titles in the last 19 seasons.
The first quarter ended up tied 30-30 after the Heat finished the frame on a 10-2 spurt. San Antonio(4-0) regained their early lead and were up 56-51 at halftime. The Spurs extended their margin to double digits late in the third quarter on a 13-2 run to go ahead 88-73. The closest Miami cut the deficit to was 98-87 midway in the fourth quarter after they scored eight straight points.
The Heat had a trio of players with at least 20 points. Tyler Johnson had 23 points, James Johnson got 21 points along with seven rebounds and Goran Dragic dropped 20 points.
San Antonio was led by LaMarcus Aldridge with 31 points and six rebounds. Heat killer Danny Green put together 15 points and seven rebounds while Rudy Gay drained 22 points. Manu Ginobili scored 14 points and Pau Gasol had 13 points along with nine rebounds.
