FHSAA Playoff Point Standings Week 9

     The weekly playoff point standings were released by the FHSAA on Tuesday following Week 9 action. The final district games are scheduled for Week 10 throughout the state of Florida.
    All district champions will be determined by the end of the week from Class 8A to Class 5A for automatic spots in the FHSAA playoffs. Should there be a three-way tie between schools with the best district record, the team with the highest playoff point average will get the automatic bid.
     It was noticed that there were many shifts in playoff seeds for the small schools from Class 1A to Class 4A in South Florida. Pahokee(39.5) kept a firm grasp of the top seed in Region 4 of Class 1A as they edged Seminole Ridge in a game last week. Class 2A in Region 4 had Champagnat(37.86) dropped for the second straight week from second to third. Glades Day(35.0) jumped up to a tie for fourth place with Community School of Naples.
     The rankings of Class 3A in Region 4 saw no changes at all for three weeks since the inaugural playoff point standings was introduced after Week 6. That changed this past Friday as American Heritage fell at home to Glades Central and St. Andrew's got blown out at Benjamin. Chaminade-Madonna(39.0) stayed at #1, Benjamin(37.14) rose up into the top four at #2, St. Andrew's(36.43) and Everglades Prep(36.29) dropped one spot each to third and fourth. Calvary Christian(35.17) stepped up to fifth and American Heritage(35.15) fell from fourth to sixth.
     No changes happened for Class 3A in Region 2 with Kings Academy(41.14), who beat Key West last Friday, at #2 and Oxbridge Academy(40.83) at #3.
     University School(44.83) had a big cushion in first of Region 4 in Class 4A as Key West(40.17), Monsignor Pace(38.33) and Gulliver Prep(37.17) stayed the same for the top four seeds. They were followed by Glades Central(37.14), Booker T. Washington(34.25) and North Broward Prep(33.3).
     Class 5A in Region 4 remained the same with American Heritage as the top seed and Cardinal Gibbons in fifth. A change in District 15 leader has Fort Pierce Westwood jump to fourth and Suncoast fall from fourth to eighth. Coconut Creek dropped out of the top eight from the seventh spot.
    Region 4 in Class 6A saw some major battles in Dade County for schools in District 16 last week. Miami Northwestern kept their top position with a victory over Miami Central while Carol City stopped Booker T. Washington. Regardless of these game results, none of these schools changed their ranking with #1 Miami Northwestern(42.57), #5 Miami Central(38.67), #6 Carol City(37.43), #8 Norland(34.0) and #4 Dillard(33.86).
     The top four seeds remained the same in Class 7A of Region 4 with St. Thomas Aquinas(40.43) as the first seed. Dwyer(39.75) and Nova(38.43) shifted up one spot to second and third while Doral Academy(37.67) dropped from second to fourth. Forest Hill(37.71) stuck in the fifth spot while South Broward(35.0) and Mater Academy(34.14) switched positions. South Miami(33.71) replaced Miami Sunset in the last qualifying spot.
     Class 8A in Region 3 remained intact with #1 Palm Beach Central, #2 Miramar followed by #3 Deerfield Beach and #4 Atlantic. Plantation remained in fifth while #6 Western and #7 Seminole Ridge switched spots. #8 Park Vista was in the eighth seed for the second straight week.
     Region 4 in Class 8A top eight seeds has #1 Columbus, #2 Southridge, #3 Belen Jesuit, #4 North Miami, #5 Palmetto, #6 South Dade, #7 Miami and #8 Homestead.
