The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders shut out the Deerfield Beach Bucks 14-0 at Brian Piccolo Stadium on Friday night. STA has allowed just three points in four home contests this season.
Neither team scored in the first quarter and they both came very close from getting into the end zone during the first half. The tie was broken by St. Thomas Aquinas(4-1) at the 2:52 mark of the second quarter. Deerfield Beach(3-2) quarterback Kyle Kaplan threw a screen pass to the right side that was deflected and intercepted by linebacker Nikolas Bonitto. He returned it one yard for a touchdown and a Raiders 7-0 lead.
The Bucks went three-and-out on their next possession and had the punt. STA started their next drive deep in Deerfield Beach territory at the 25-yard line. Running back Daniel Carter capped the possession with a run around the right end from five yards away with 1:02 left.
Deerfield Beach had their closest opportunity to get on the scoreboard in the fourth quarter. They lost the ball downs at the Raiders seven-yard line with 7:48 remaining.
