The FHSAA released the football playoff point standings on Tuesday after Week 8 action throughout the state. There were more changes in the standings this week due to numerous district game outcomes recently.
The most movement among South Florida high schools was located in Class 8A of Region 3. Palm Beach Central(40.0) edged the former top seed Seminole Ridge in a district game last week and jumped from eighth to first in the region. Seminole Ridge(38.57) moved down to #6. Miramar(38.67) stayed in the #2 spot while district rival Plantation(39.57) leaped from seventh to fifth. Deerfield Beach(37.86) shifted from fifth to third and Atlantic(37.67) fell from third to fourth. Western(37.43) returns back to the seventh spot from sixth while Park Vista makes their first appearance in the top eight at #8 with 35.57 points.
Region 4 that consists of Dade County schools finished Columbus(42.14), South Dade(41.5), Palmetto(40.67), North Miami(36.17), Belen Jesuit(38.17), Southridge(37.8), Miami(37.33) and Homestead(36.0).
Class 7A in Region 4 saw several overall changes with a Dwyer victory over Forest Hill last week as Dwyer(40.0) vaulted up to the #3 seed from #5 while Forest Hill moved down to #5. St. Thomas Aquinas remained the top seed with 40.83 points while Doral Academy stayed in second with 40.14 points. Nova in fourth with 39.0 points. The other wild card contenders are #6 Mater Academy, #8 Miami Sunset and South Broward replaced West Broward in seventh.
Region 4 of Class 6A saw no changes at the top spot following the Miami Northwestern win last week over defending Class 6A champion Carol City. Dillard had the same status in fourth with 34.57 points. Three District 16 schools made the at-large positions. Miami Central(40.0) is at #5, Carol City(36.5) is at #6 and Norland(34.67) dropped to #8.
Defending Class 5A champion American Heritage(47.4) defeated Cardinal Gibbons in District 16 of to become district leader and the #1 seed in Region 4. Cardinal Gibbons fell from first to fifth with 42.83 points. Coconut Creek stayed at seventh with 38.8 points. District 15 leader Suncoast remains the fourth seed.
Pahokee(38.4) remained the #1 seed in Class 1A of Region 4. Champagnat fell from the top seed to second for Class 2A in Region 4 with 39.5 points.
There were no changes in the top four seeds for Region 4 in Class 3A with in order Chaminade-Madonna(39.17), St. Andrew's(37.5), Everglades Prep(37.33) and American Heritage(36.14). Region 2 had Kings Academy(40.0) move up to second and Oxbridge Academy(38.4) drop to third.
University School was the #1 seed again in Class 4A in Region 4 with 44.2 points. They were followed by Key West(43.2) and Monsignor Pace(38.4). Gulliver Prep(36.6) replaced North Broward Prep(36.0) as the final playoff seed. #5 Glades Central(36.17) and #7 Booker T. Washington(35.86) are still on the outside.
