The Miami Hurricanes had their home opener and disposed the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 41-13 at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday. It began the second season for Mark Richt as Miami head coach.
The first quarter saw both teams exchange field goals for a 3-3 game. The second quarter would be different as the Hurricanes dominated.
Running Mark Walton would cut through the right side for a five-yard touchdown run at 13:31. Quarterback Malik Rosier connected with wide receiver Lawrence Cager on a five-yard touchdown pass up the middle at the 8:31 mark. Rosier threw a high pass to wide receiver Darrell Langham on the left side of the end zone from five yards away to make it 24-3 with 5:43 remaining in the first half. Uriel Hernandez helped BCU with a 35-yard field goal with 53 second to go in the quarter.
Miami(1-0) scored on their first possession of the second half. Walton capped it with a touchdown run to the left side from six yards out with at 12:30 of the third quarter. Wide receiver Michael Irvin II made his first career catch for the Hurricanes which was for 11 yards on the prior play.
Bethune-Cookman(0-1) placed their first touchdown of the contest with 6:16 left and cut the deficit to 31-13. Running back Michael Jones blasted in with a one-yard touchdown run.
The Canes moved ahead 38-13 with 1:08 left in the third. Rosier threw a 22-yard pass across the middle to wide receiver Braxton Berrios. Michael Badgley would add a 50-yard field goal at the 5:14 mark of the fourth quarter.
