The Miami Marlins played their final road game of the regular season and lost to the Colorado Rockies 15-9 on Wednesday at Coors Field. The Fish finish the 2017 season at home this weekend against the Atlanta Braves in a four-game set.
Colorado(86-73) piled on six runs during the bottom of the second. Ian Desmond lifted a three-run home run to right-center field on the first pitch. Trevor Story and Mark Reynolds scored in front of him on the homer. Four batters later, Charlie Blackmon reached first on an infield single and Carlos Gonzalez scored to make it 4-0. Story came up to bat for the second time of the inning and drilled a single up the middle for Jonathan Lucroy and Blackmon to cross the plate.
In the fourth inning, Miami(74-84) mounted some production with three runs. Derek Dietrich grounded into a fielder's choice at second for Christian Yelich to score. A.J. Ellis followed and he walloped a two-run homer to left-center field on a 1-1 pitch for his sixth home run of the year.
The Rockies answered back in the bottom of the frame. Story powered a double down the left-field line and D.J. LeMahieu along with Nolan Arenado scored. Story later scored on a base hit by Desmond to center field.
Colorado placed five more runs in the sixth inning and extended their margin to 14-3. The Marlins picked up six runs in the last two innings of the contest.
