Marlins starting pitcher Dillon Peters made his major league debut, pitched seven shutout innings and struck out eight batters as Miami lost to the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1 on Friday night at Marlins Park. The Marlins extended their losing streak to five games.
Miami(66-68) wasted no time to go ahead 1-0 in the first. Dee Gordon scored on a wild pitch thrown by the Phillies starting pitcher Nick Pivetta while Brian Anderson made his first major league at-bat.
It was not until the ninth inning before Philadelphia(51-83) put up two runs to take the lead. Jorge Alfaro drove in Maikel Franco with a single into right field. Pedro Florimon later scored on a ground out by Andres Blanco to second.
