The sale of the Miami Marlins by owner Jeffrey Loria to a group of investors that includes Bruce Sherman and Derek Jeter was approved on Wednesday. All 29 Major League Baseball owners made it a unanimous decision via a conference call.
Loria became the third owner in Marlins history when he purchased the club in 2002. The franchise made the playoffs just once during his reign in 2003 and eventually won the World Series that year. The Marlins changed the first name of the organization from Florida to Miami after the 2011 season.
