Panthers Strike Lightning

     The Florida Panthers played their first home game of the preseason and beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-2 at BB&T Center on Tuesday night. Both teams will meet again in Sunrise on Thursday night.
     Neither club scored in the first period and it would change in the second. The Panthers put in a tally 42 seconds into the second frame. Aleksander Barkov won a face-off in the right circle, pulled the puck back and Jonathan Huberdeau snapped a shot by Andrei Vasilevskiy.
     Florida(3-0-1) increased their lead to 2-0 on their third power play of the contest. Vincent Trocheck was at the top of the zone and sent the puck to Barkov at the left point. His slapshot was redirected in by Huberdeau at the top of the crease with 14:03 left in the second.
     In the third period, Tampa Bay(2-3-0) got on the scoreboard. Dan Girardi fired a shot from the blue line that was deflected in by Ryan Callahan at 7:35.
     The Panthers extended the margin with 7:04 remaining to make it 3-1. Connor Brickley put in a wrist shot from the right circle following assists by Mark Pysyk and Derek MacKenzie.
     The Lightning picked up a goal with 1:03 to go by Nikita Kucherov. The Cats got an empty-net goal by Trocheck with 21.5 seconds left.
