The Miami Marlins returned home and disposed the New York Mets 13-1 at Marlins Park on Monday night. It was the first home game for the Marlins since Hurricane Irma ravaged South Florida last week. The Fish have won two of their last three games.
In the 1st inning, Miami(70-80) moved out ahead. Justin Bour singled to right field to score Tomas Telis. Giancarlo Stanton scored on a wild pitch in the third inning.
New York(65-85) scored their only run in the contest during the top of the fourth. Gavin Cecchini punched a base hit up the middle which scored Juan Lagares.
The Fish made it 5-1 in the bottom of the fourth. Stanton crushed a three-run homer to center field on a 1-0 pitch. It was his 55th home run of the season and that leads Major League Baseball.
The Marlins added seven runs in the fifth inning. A Dee Gordon two-run double to right-center field was able to score Ichiro Suzuki and Mike Aviles. Stanton followed with a single to left-center field and Gordon scored. Marcell Ozuna hit a base hit through the left side of the infield and Telis crossed the plate. Brian Anderson was the last player in the starting lineup to get on base as he tripled to deep center field for Stanton and Bour to score. Anderson then scored on a single by Ichiro to right field for a 12-1 lead.
In the seventh inning, Miami concluded the scoring. Ozuna walloped his 34th home run of the year on a 0-1 pitch to left field.
