2022 FHSAA Playoffs First Round Results

     The FHSAA Playoffs in football began this past weekend in South Florida. 33 high schools from Palm Beach County, Broward County and Dade County will be involved in the next round. 
     Several high schools from the tri-county area were off for the first playoff week of action. They included #1 Chaminade-Madonna, #2 Cardinal Newman, #3 Benjamin and #4 Avant Garde from Class 1M had the week off. They will play in the regional semifinals against each other in a couple of days. #2 Pahokee in Class 1R had a first-round bye and will host #3 Chiefland this week. 
     In Region 4 of the Class 4M regional quarterfinals, #1 Palm Beach Central walloped #8 Jupiter 46-7 and will face #5 Marjory Stoneman Douglas, who outscored #4 Santaluces 48-44. #2 Monarch downed #7 Boca Raton 56-21 while #3 Palm Beach Gardens defeated #6 Wellington 30-13. Palm Beach Gardens will now go to Broward County and face Monarch. 
     Region 4 did not see any close games in the first round. #1 Columbus blasted #8 Miami 64-0, #2 Western took #7 Cypress Bay 38-17, #3 Doral Academy beat #6 Somerset Academy 50-25 and #4 Miami Palmetto knocked off #5 West Broward 37-13. Miami Palmetto will visit Columbus and Doral Academy heads for Western. 
     Class 3M saw all the home teams prevail in Region 3. #1 St. Thomas Aquinas hammered #8 Coconut Creek 59-14, #2 Dillard dropped #7 Fort Lauderdale 45-20, #3 Blanche Ely blanked #7 Dwyer 28-0 and #4 Atlantic defeated #5 Plantation 32-14. Blanche Ely will have a Soul Bowl rematch at Dillard. St. Thomas Aquinas remains at home to take on Atlantic. 
     The top two seeds in Region 4 were involved in routs as #1 Homestead pounded #8 North Miami 40-0 while #2 Miramar hammered #7 Pembroke Pines Charter 48-0. #4 Belen Jesuit was upset by #5 Dr. Krop 23-17 and #3 Southridge got by #6 South Broward 20-14. Dr. Krop visits Homestead and Southridge goes to Miramar for the next round. 
     The Class 2M regional quarterfinals had all the home teams victorious. In Region 3, #1 American Heritage took care of #8 Inlet Grove 43-7, #2 Cardinal Gibbons shut out #7 Pine Crest 45-0, #3 Calvary Christian Academy handled #6 St. Andrew's 49-34 and #4 Boynton Beach edged #5 The King's Academy 29-26. American Heritage hosts Boynton Beach while Cardinal Gibbons hosts Calvary Christian Academy in the second round.  
     In Region 4, #1 Miami Central dominated #8 St. Brendan 60-0, #2 Booker T. Washington held off #7 Carol City 27-13, #3 Miami Norland won over #6 Miami Jackson 37-6 and #4 Miami Northwestern slammed #5 Gulliver Prep 39-0. Traz Powell Stadium will host two regional semifinals as Miami Central challenges Miami Northwestern and Booker T. Washington clashes with Miami Norland.
