Miami Ratings October 2022

     The Miami/Fort Lauderdale region were issued their ratings for sports talk format radio stations. The time span went from the second week of September until the second week of October. 

     A major changed happened to one of the market's sports talk radio stations. Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM flipped from a sports format on October 3. The radio station had broadcast sports on a daily basis since August 2004. Their final period dropped from a 0.4 to a 0.3 and they landed in third place among Miami sports radio stations behind WINZ-AM for only the second time. 

     AM 560 Sports WQAM-AM rose from a 0.9 to a 1.0 in the month. They began to broadcast Miami Heat preseason contests. The Miami Dolphins won their first three games in 2022 then lost a couple of contests. The University of Miami Hurricanes football team lost three straight games. It was announced that WQAM would remain the flagship radio station of the Florida Panthers. Jonathan Zaslow was replaced as the midday host when Brendan Tobin and Leroy Hoard were shifted from the morning shift at WAXY-AM. 

     Fox Sports 940 WINZ-AM increased from a 0.3 to a 0.4. They finished alone in second place in the market for the first time since October 2012. It was the just the second time this had happened since WINZ flipped to a sports format in April 2009. The Miami Marlins completed their 2022 regular season campaign with a 69-93 record in the final season with Don Mattingly as Marlins manager. The University of Florida football team had a 4-2 record at the end of the period.
