Oilers Spoil Panthers

     The Edmonton Oilers edged the Florida Panthers 4-3 in overtime at Rogers Place on Monday night. The Panthers began a five-game road trip against Western Conference opponents. 
     Florida(10-8-4) picked up a 1-0 lead at 3:49 of the first period. Sam Bennett passed the puck from the end wall and Nick Cousins took a wrist shot from the right point that hit off Darnell Nurse in the low slot. Matthew Tkachuk scored on his own rebound from the right of the crease past Stuart Skinner for his 10th goal of the season.
     In the second period, Edmonton(12-10-0) tied it up 1-1 on the power play with 9:25 left. Connor McDavid put in his 17th goal and his NHL-leading 37th point this season. Zach Hyman and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins were credited with assists on the play. 
     The Oilers took their first lead of the contest 2-1 at the 5:18 mark of the third period. Brett Kulak fired a slap shot from the left point that was deflected by Hyman in the inner left circle. Tyson Barrie raced in and poked the puck in from the top of the crease by Spencer Knight for his third tally versus the Cats this season. 
     The Panthers evened it up 2-2 with 9:02 remaining. Eetu Luostarinen made a cross-ice pass from the left wing. Sam Reinhart angled a pass from the high slot and Anton Lundell tipped it in from the left of the crease for his fourth goal of the campaign. 
     The Cats added a power-play goal with 4:44 to go in the third when Brandon Montour blasted a slap shot from above the right circle to give Florida a 3-2 lead. Aaron Ekblad collected his 300th career point with the Panthers. 
     Edmonton would tie it 3-3 with five seconds left in the period. Hyman touched the puck in the low right circle and McDavid centered it. Evan Bouchard snapped a shot from the slot area for his third tally this year. 
     The Oilers ended the game 22 seconds into overtime. Nurse connected a long lead pass from his own goal line to the red line. Leon Draisaitl made a give-and-go passing sequence with McDavid in the Panthers zone to score the game-winning goal from the right of the crease for his 13rd goal of the season.
