Dolphins Stave Off Saints

     The Miami Dolphins held off the New Orleans Saints 21-17 at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday. The Dolphins came off a bye week and picked up their third straight victory. The Saints won their only Super Bowl title at this venue. 
     Miami(5-7) quickly got in front 7-0 at the 11:19 mark of the first quarter. De'Von Achane sprinted around the right end on a 29-yard touchdown run. 
     The Fins would have a 16-0 lead by halftime. Riley Patterson had three field goals during the second quarter from 39 yards at 14:13, 25 yards at 6:10 and 48 yards with two seconds left in the first half. 
      New Orleans(2-10) broke the shutout at 10:40 of the third quarter. Tyler Shough fired a 17-yard touchdown pass to Chris Olave down the right sideline. They added a two-point conversion on a running attempt to make it 16-8. 
      In the fourth quarter, the Dolphins expanded their lead to 19-7 at the 9:42 mark of the final quarter. Patterson booted a 33-yard field goal. 
      The Saints attempted to pull off a comeback. Charlie Smyth helped out with a long 56-yard field goal with 6:13 to go and they were down 19-11. 
     Shough connected a 15-yard touchdown pass to Devaughn Vele to make it 19-17 with 1:23 left in the fourth. Their two-point conversion to tie the contest was intercepted by Minkah Fitzpatrick and he returned to the end zone to give Miami a 21-17 lead.

Inter Miami CF In MLS Cup Final

      Inter Miami CF beat New York City FC 5-1 in the Eastern Conference Finals of the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night. The Herons reached the MLS Cup Final for the first time in franchise history. They will host the Vancouver Whitecaps next Saturday and try to capture their first MLS Cup title.
      The Herons took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute. Tadeo Allende was able to get the tally when he rifled an 11-yard shot with his right foot. 
       Inter Miami CF increased their lead to 2-0 during the 23rd minute. Allende collected his second goal of the contest as he redirected a header from 14 yards following a Jordi Alba diagonal pass. 
       New York City FC closed it to 2-1 in the 37th minute. They took an indirect kick from the right side and Justin Haak placed in a header from nine yards away.
      In the second half, the Herons made it 3-1 in the 67th minute. Lionel Messi angled a pass and Mateo Silvetti found the back of the net on a 13-yard, right-footed shot. 
      It became 4-1 for Inter Miami CF in the 83rd minute. Telasco Segovia sprinted down the field with the ball and then passed ahead. Alba made a backheel pass in the penalty area and Segovia blasted a right-footed shot from 12 yards out.
       Allende got the hat trick with his third goal of the game during the 89th minute as he raced in on a breakaway and scored from eight yards away with his right foot to give the Herons a 5-1 advantage. It was his eighth goal in the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs. 

Miami Northwestern Takes Miami Central

     The #1 Miami Northwestern Bulls outpowered the #2 Miami Central Rockets 50-29 in the FHSAA Class 3A regional finals at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami on Saturday night. It continued the longtime Dade County rivalry between both high schools. It was the only high school football postseason game played in Florida tonight. 
     Miami Northwestern(12-0) raced out to a 29-15 lead. Miami Central(10-2) scored near the end of the second quarter and trailed 29-22 at halftime.
      The Bulls got a touchdown early in the third quarter for a 36-22 advantage. In the fourth quarter, the Rockets came back with seven points and were down 36-29. Miami Northwestern responded with two touchdowns later in the final quarter to make it 50-29.

Pistons Plunge Heat

     The Miami Heat had their six-game winning streak snapped as they lost to the Detroit Pistons 138-135 at Kaseya Center on Saturday night. Both teams were among the top three teams in the Eastern Conference standings. Former Heat player Duncan Robinson was honored with a video montage in the first quarter. 
      Detroit(16-4) powered out to a 36-23 after the end of one quarter. The Pistons continued to lead 71-59 by halftime. 
      Miami(13-7) could not change the momentum and they trailed 108-91 at the conclusion of the third quarter. The Heat tried to make a comeback attempt during the final quarter, however they fell short. 
      Andrew Wiggins dropped in a game-high 31 points for the Heat. Bam Adebayo added a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. Norman Powell drained in 28 points and Tyler Herro scored 24 points. 
      Cade Cunningham compiled 29 points and eight assists for the Pistons. Tobias Harris was able to contribute 26 points while Robinson had 18 points. 

Hurricanes Pile On Pittsburgh

     The University of Miami Hurricanes knocked off the University of Pittsburgh Panthers 38-7 on Saturday at Acrisure Stadium. The Hurricanes will find out on December 7 if they are named one of 12 teams to participate in the 2025 College Football Playoffs. 
     Miami(10-2, 6-2) had a 3-0 lead with 4:31 left in the first quarter. Carter Davis was able to kick a 29-yard field goal.
      In the second quarter, Pittsburgh((8-4, 6-2) moved ahead 7-3 at the 14:20 mark. Mason Heintschel tossed a six-yard touchdown pass to Justin Holmes on the right side. 
      The Hurricanes answered back on their next possession at 11:07 to make it 10-7. Malachi Toney connected a 10-yard touchdown pass to Elija Lofton on the right side of the end zone.
       The Canes extended their lead to 17-7 with 1:55 left in the second. Carson Beck fired a 22-yard touchdown strike to Toney on the left sideline.
       The U made it 24-7 at 9:29 of the third quarter. Mark Fletcher Jr. rushed up the middle from four yards away.
       It became 31-7 for Miami with 4:28 remaining in the third. CharMar Brown caught a nine-yard touchdown reception on the left hash marks from Beck.

South Florida High Schools In State Semifinals

      There were 17 South Florida high school tri-county teams that played in the regional finals of the 2025 FHSAA Playoffs. Nine teams advanced to the state semifinals. 
      Dade County shifted from seven high schools to two. Miami Northwestern and Miami Palmetto were victorious. Miami Central, Southridge, Goleman, Immaculata-La Salle and True North Academy were defeated. 
      Broward County dropped from seven teams to five. St. Thomas Aquinas, Cardinal Gibbons, Chaminade-Madonna, American Heritage and West Broward prevailed. Archbishop McCarthy and McArthur fell. 
      Palm Beach County went from three squads to two. West Boca Raton and Cardinal Newman won while Pahokee lost. Vero Beach from Indian River County moved on to the next round.

St. Thomas Aquinas Tops McArthur

      The #1 St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders defeated the #6 McArthur Mustangs 34-7 at Simmons Family Field in Fort Lauderdale in the FHSAA Class 5A regional final on Friday night. It was a rematch between both teams from District 15. The Raiders are two wins away from winning their state-record seventh consecutive state title and 17th overall state championship. 
      St. Thomas Aquinas(12-1) got out in front 3-0 with a field goal and added a touchdown for a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. McArthur(10-3) gave up another touchdown in the second quarter and trailed 17-0 at halftime. 
      The Mustangs cut it to 17-7 with a touchdown early in the third quarter. The Raiders matched it on a touchdown with two minutes left in the third for a 24-7 advantage. STA added another touchdown with four minutes left in the fourth quarter along with a field goal in the final seconds of the game and led 34-7. 

Chaminade-Madonna Disposes True North Academy

      The #1 Chaminade-Madonna Lions handled the #2 True North Academy Titans 35-14 at Vince Zappone Field in Hollywood on Friday night in the FHSAA Class 1A regional finals. The Lions are two victories away from capturing a fifth straight state championship. 
      True North Academy(10-3) scored in the opening quarter for a 7-0 advantage. Chaminade-Madonna(10-2) responded with two touchdowns late in the first quarter to take a 14-7 lead. The Lions added another touchdown during the second quarter and had a 21-7 halftime lead. 
      The Titans surrendered a touchdown in the third quarter and trailed 28-7. Both teams scored one touchdown each during the final quarter. 

American Heritage Slips By Archbishop McCarthy

      The #2 American Heritage Patriots got revenge on the #1 Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks 25-20 in the FHSAA Class 4A regional finals on Friday night in Fort Lauderdale. It was a District 15 rematch between both high schools. 
      Archbishop McCarthy(10-3) eased out to a 7-0 advantage in the first quarter. The Patriots came up with a safety and were behind 7-2. American Heritage(7-5) leaped to a 9-7 lead as they reached the end zone during the second quarter. The Mavericks retook the lead 13-9 later in the frame. The Patriots scored again to lead 16-13, however Archbishop McCarthy answered back to make it 20-16 before the end of the first half. 
      American Heritage had the only points during the third quarter with a field goal and they were down 20-19. The Pats increased it to 25-20 with a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter. 

Cardinal Gibbons Takes Immaculata-La Salle

      The #2 Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs stopped the #1 Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions 20-17 in the FHSAA Class 2A regional finals on Friday night. The contest was played in Dade County. 
      Cardinal Gibbons(10-3) got off to a 7-3 start in the opening quarter. The Chiefs extended it to 14-3 in the second quarter. Immaculata-La Salle(12-1) closed the gap to 14-10 by halftime with a touchdown late in the second. 
      The Royal Lions overtook their opponent 17-14 in the first minute of the third quarter. The Chiefs moved in front 20-17 on a touchdown with two minutes left in the third. 

West Boca Raton Wipes Out Mitchell

      The #2 West Boca Raton Bulls dominated the #5 Mitchell Mustangs 41-3 in Boca Raton on Friday night in the FHSAA Class 6A regional finals. The Bulls are the reigning FHSAA Class 6A state champions. 
      Mitchell(10-3) got a field goal two minutes into the contest and led 3-0. West Boca Raton(11-2) scored on their first possession for a 7-3 lead. The Bulls extended their lead to 21-3 with two more touchdowns before the conclusion of the first quarter. It became 35-3 for West Boca Raton during the second quarter as they reached the end zone twice. 
      The Bulls scored on their first possession of the second half and led 41-3. A running clock was implemented for the final quarter. 

Miami Palmetto Outmuscles Goleman

      The #1 Miami Palmetto Panthers outscored the #3 Goleman Gators 65-41 in Dade County on Friday night. It was a FHSAA Class 7A regional final. 
      Miami Palmetto(11-2) rocketed out to a 28-0 lead in the opening quarter. Goleman(8-5) closed it to 28-7 with a touchdown early in the second quarter, however they were down 35-21 at halftime. 
      The Panthers expanded their lead to 38-21 on a field goal early in the second half. The Gators got into the end zone and trailed 38-27 in the middle of the third quarter. Miami Palmetto scored 21 unanswered points and led 59-27 during the fourth quarter. 

Southridge Stunned By West Broward

       The #1 Southridge Spartans fell to the #2 West Broward Bobcats 30-27 in a FHSAA Class 6A regional final on Friday night in Dade County. It was a clash between the two top seeds in Region 4. 
      Southridge(11-2) raced out to a 14-0 lead during the first quarter. West Broward(11-2) bounced back with a touchdown and a field goal during the second quarter and were down 14-10 at halftime. 
      The Bobcats started off strong to begin the third quarter and led 16-14. They expanded their lead to 23-14 in the fourth quarter, but the Spartans answered back and cut the deficit to 23-21. Southridge would regain the lead 27-23 on a touchdown with under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. West Broward quickly came back to take a 30-27 lead with less than a minute left in the final quarter on a touchdown. 

Flames Flash Panthers

      The Florida Panthers were burned by the Calgary Flames 5-3 at Amerant Bank Arena on Friday. The Panthers continued their six-game homestand in Sunrise. The Flames have the second-worst record in the NHL. 
      Florida(12-11-1) raced out to a 2-0 lead early in the first period. They took a 1-0 lead 29 seconds into the contest when Evan Rodrigues snapped a shot from the top of the crease for his seventh goal of the campaign following a lead pass from Sam Reinhart. 
      It became 2-0 for the Panthers at the 2:58 mark. A.J. Greer made a cross-ice pass from above the left circle. Sam Bennett paid back his former team as he placed in a forehand shot from crease area for his sixth goal this season. 
      Calgary(9-14-3) would answer back with two goals before the end of the period to tie it 2-2.  Yan Kuznetsov picked up his first NHL goal on a wrist shot from high slot past Daniil Tarasov at 5:35. 
      MacKenzie Weegar burned his former club with his first tally of the year with 9:19 remaining in the first. He fired a slap shot from above the right circle. 
      The second period belonged to the Flames as they increased it to 4-2. They got a 5-on-3 power-play goal 55 seconds into the frame when Morgan Frost backhanded a shot from the left side of the crease for his sixth goal in 2025-26. 
      Calgary had a two-goal margin 4-2 with 1:16 left in the second. Nazem Kadri redirected a Rasmus Andersson shot from the right point inside the crease area for his fifth goal of the season.
      In the third period, the Cats closed it to 4-3 with 8:06 remaining. Reinhart angled a pass from the right wing and Brad Marchand collected his team-high 15th goal with a wrist shot from the high slot past Devin Cooley. 
      Florida pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with 2:42 to go. Joel Farabee shot the puck into an empty net from the neutral zone for his seventh goal this year with 1:03 left in the third to give the Flames a 5-3 lead.

Kaiir Elam Goes To Titans

      Former Palm Beach County high school football player Kaiir Elam has signed a deal with the Tennessee Titans. He was released by the Dallas Cowboys this past Saturday. 
      Elam played high school football with the Benjamin Buccaneers and college football with the University of Florida Gators. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 2022 and was with them for his first three seasons in the NFL.

Flyers Come Back On Panthers

      The Philadelphia Flyers overcame the Florida Panthers 4-2 on Wednesday night at Amerant Bank Arena. The Panthers began a six-game homestand.  
      Florida(12-10-1) ran out to a 1-0 lead at the 5:20 mark of the first period. Carter Verhaeghe pushed the puck from the left point. Sam Bennett carried the puck through the left circle and slide it across the crease. Brad Marchand put in a wrist shot from the right of the crease past Dan Vladar for his 14th goal of the season. 
      The Panthers expanded their lead to 2-0 at 5:16 of the second period. Aaron Ekblad advanced the puck from the top right circle. Bennett connected a cross-ice pass from the right of the crease and Verhaeghe collected his fourth goal of the campaign on a forehand shot from the low left circle. It was his second goal in the past two games. 
      Philadelphia(12-7-3) scored to make it 2-1 at the 7:56 mark of the second. Owen Tippett made a square pass from the left point and Jamie Drysdale fed the puck from the top of the zone. Emil Andrae chalked up his first tally of the year with a wrist shot from the left point by Sergei Bobrovsky. 
      The Flyers were able to tie it up 2-2 with 8:49 remaining in the period. Drysdale walked the blue line to the left point and zipped a cross-ice pass. Andrae took a slap shot from the top of the zone and Matvei Michkov got his sixth goal this season when he deflected it in from the low slot. 
      In the third period, Philadelphia picked up their first lead of the contest 3-2 with 45.2 seconds left. Tyson Forester snapped a shot from above the right circle for his eighth goal of the campaign. It was his fourth goal in the last four games. 
      It became 4-2 for the Flyers with 24.6 seconds to go in the third. Christian Dvorak released a shot from the high slot and it was redirected in by Sean Couturier in the crease area for his third goal in 2025-26. 

Heat Shoot Down Bucks

     The Miami Heat got by the Milwaukee Bucks 126-123 at Kaseya Center on Wednesday night. The Heat continued their homestand.
      Miami(13-6) surged to a 29-27 lead by the end of the first quarter. The Heat had a 53-47 advantage at halftime. 
      Milwaukee(8-11) stayed in the contest and were down 81-77 at the conclusion of the third quarter. The Heat extended their lead to 12 points 100-88 with 5:02 left in the final quarter. 
      Tyler Herro led Miami with a game-high 29 points. Bam Adebayo contributed a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds. Andrew Wiggins, Norman Powell and Kel'el Ware all had 11 points each. 
      Ryan Rollins dropped in a club-high 26 points for the Bucks. Myles Turner scored 24 points in the defeat.

2025 FHSAA Playoffs Second Round Results

      The second round of the 2025 FHSAA Playoffs happened last week. 17 South Florida teams from Palm Beach County, Broward County and Dade County advanced to the next round.
      Class 7A in Region 4 had #1 Miami Palmetto defeat #5 Columbus 27-10 and #3 Goleman outscore #2 Spanish River 56-42. In Region 3, #1 Vero Beach powered by #5 Lake Nona 56-14 while #3 Fort Pierce Central was edged by #7 Dr. Phillips 22-21. 
      Region 4 of Class 6A resulted in #1 Southridge over #5 Piper 42-6 and #2 West Broward downing #3 Monarch 38-12. #2 West Boca Raton handled #6 East Lake 48-7 in Region 3. 
      #1 St. Thomas Aquinas dropped #4 Coconut Creek 45-13 in Class 5A of Region 4. #6 McArthur slipped by #2 Atlantic 17-16. 
      Class 4A in Region 4 had #1 Archbishop McCarthy knocking off #4 Miami Norland 24-14. #2 American Heritage smashed #6 Plantation 48-7. 
       Traditional Dade County powerhouses moved on in Region 4 of Class 3A. #1 Miami Northwestern routed #4 Key West 56-6 and #2 Miami Central outlasted #3 Lely 70-30.
      Class 2A in Region 3 had #2 Cardinal Gibbons edge #3 Miami Killian 38-35 while #1 Immaculata-La Salle zip by #5 Ransom Everglades 42-16. In Region 3, #3 Glades Central fell to #2 Lakewood 14-7.
      Class 1A in Region 4 saw #1 Chaminade-Madonna handle #4 Miami Edison 47-18 and #2 True North Academy step over #3 St. Andrew's 62-28. #2 Cardinal Newman beat #3 Community School of Naples 45-14 in Region 3. 
      There was only one contest involving a South Florida team in Class Rural. #5 Pahokee was able to get past #4 Taylor County 17-7.

Panthers Blitz Predators

      The Florida Panthers roared by the Nashville Predators 8-3 at Bridgestone Arena on Monday night. It was the Panthers only road contest in a 12-game stretch. The Predators have the worst record in the National Hockey League. 
      Florida(12-9-1) charged out to a 1-0 lead just 11 seconds into the first period. Carter Verhaeghe passed the puck from the end wall and A.J. Greer scored his fifth goal this year on a wrist shot from low right circle by Juuse Saros. 
      The Cats made it 2-0 at the 5:42 mark of the opening period. Evan Rodrigues collected his sixth goal of the campaign as he put in a wrist shot from the low left circle. 
      The Predators answered back 70 seconds later to make it 2-1. Filip Forsberg swept the puck into the cage from the left side of the crease past Daniil Tarasov for his ninth goal of the season. 
      Nashville(6-13-4) would tie it up 2-2 with 9:28 to go in the first. It turned to be the first tally of the year for Fedor Svechkov as he steered the puck in from the right side of the crease.
      The Panthers regained the lead 59 seconds later and made it 3-2. Jesper Boqvist sprinted into the Preds zone and scored his third goal on a forehand shot from the inner left circle. 
       It became 4-2 for Florida with 4:14 remaining in the first frame. A clearing pass from a defender went off Sam Bennett in the crease area for his fifth goal in 2025-26. 
       In the second period, the Panthers increased it to 5-2 at 1:24. Gustav Forsling flicked a shot from the left point through traffic for his first goal this season. Nashville replaced Saros in goal with Justus Annunen.
       The Predators closed it to 5-3 with the man advantage at the 2:11 mark of the third period. Nick Blankenburg snapped a shot from the top of the zone for his second tally of the campaign. 
       The Cats made it a three-goal margin again 6-3 at 4:52 of the third. Greer collected his second goal of the contest on a snap shot from the high slot.
        Sam Reinhart gave the Panthers a 7-3 lead at 8:33 on a wrist shot from below the left circle for his 13rd goal this season. Florida extended it to 8-3 with 7:11 to go in the third when Verhaeghe scored his third goal of the season on a backhand shot from the top of the crease. 

Heat Ease By Mavericks

     The Miami Heat walked by the Dallas Mavericks 106-102 on Monday night at Kaseya Center. The Heat have won five consecutive contests and eight of their last 10 games. It was just the Mavericks fifth road game this season. 
      It was a low-scoring first quarter as Miami(12-6) led 20-19. The Heat held off the Mavs and were up 52-44 at halftime. 
      Dallas(5-14) kept up with the pace and were down 80-72 at the conclusion of the third quarter. The Mavericks were able to tie it up 102-102 with 1:05 left in the fourth quarter. Tyler Herro, who played his first game this season, made a nine-foot shot with 41.2 seconds remaining for Miami to regain the lead 104-102. 
      Herro provided 24 points and seven rebounds for the Heat. Kel'el Ware compiled a double-double of 20 points and 18 rebounds. Bam Adebayo poured in 17 points while Jaime Jaquez Jr. dropped in 13 points. 
      P.J. Washington had a game-high 27 points for the Mavericks. Cooper Flagg scored 12 points and Klay Thompson pumped in 13 points.

Inter Miami CF Passes By FC Cincinnati

      Inter Miami CF dominated FC Cincinnati 4-0 at TQL Stadium in the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Sunday. The Herons advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals of the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time in franchise history. They will have home-field advantage for the remainder of the postseason. 
      The Herons will host New York City FC in the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday. NYCFC eliminated Inter Miami CF at Citi Field in the 2022 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
      Inter Miami CF took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute. Mateo Silvetti crossed the ball from the left side and Lionel Messi placed in a header into the right side of the cage from eight yards out.
      In the second half, the Herons extended their lead to 2-0 in the 57th minute of play. Messi angled a pass to his left and Silvetti one-timed a 16-yard shot with his right foot. 
     It became 3-0 for Inter Miami CF during the 62nd minute. Messi sent a long lead pass from midfield. Tadeo Allende went on a breakaway and fired a right-footed shot from 15 yards out.
     FC Cincinnati surrendered another goal in the 74th minute and trailed 4-0. Allende received another lead pass for a breakaway and he put in a right-footed shot from 11 yards. Messi compiled his third assist in the contest.

Heat Down 76ers

     The Philadelphia 76ers fell to the Miami Heat 127-117 on Sunday at Xfinity Mobile Atena. The Heat finished up a two-game road trip. They have won four straight games and seven of their last nine contests.
     Miami broke out to a 37-27 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Heat still stayed in front 71-67 at halftime.
      Philadelphia was behind 99-93 at the conclusion of the third quarter. The Heat outscored the Sixers 28-24 in the fourth.   
      Norman Powell dropped in a game-high 32 points for Miami. Jaime Jaquez Jr. came off the bench and added 22 points. Bam Adebayo composed a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds while Kel'el Ware had 20 points along with 16 rebounds. Tyrese Maxey scored a team-high 27 points for the 76ers.

Oilers Outlast Panthers

     The Edmonton Oilers gained revenge over the Florida Panthers 6-3 at Amerant Bank Arena on Saturday night. It was a rematch of the last two Stanley Cup Finals between both teams. The Panthers won the Stanley Cup in the past two seasons over the Oilers. 
     The Panthers completed a five-game homestand. The Oilers were at the end of a seven-game road trip. 
     Edmonton(10-9-5) rapidly got out to a 1-0 lead just 25 seconds into the first period. Evan Bouchard zipped a pass from the right point. Jack Roslovic picked up his eighth goal with his new team on a wrist shot from the right wing past Sergei Bobrovsky.
     Florida(11-9-1) evened it up 1-1 at the 6:30 mark. Mackie Samoskevich skated around the net from the right corner and made a wraparound pass from the left goal line. Anton Lundell steered the puck into the cage from the blue paint by Stuart Skinner for his sixth goal of the season. Seth Jones was credited with a secondary assist on the sequence. 
     The Oilers reclaimed the lead 2-1 at 7:16 of the period. Bouchard angled a pass from the high slot and Roslovic placed in a forehand shot from the low right circle for his second tally of the contest. 
      It became 3-1 for Edmonton with 6:02 remaining in the first. A Darnell Nurse slap shot from the top of the zone was blocked by his teammate Adam Henrique in the low slot. Mattias Ekholm put in a wrist shot from the slot area for his second goal this year. It was the first time this season that an opponents scored three goals against the Cats in the first period. 
      In the second period, the Oilers expanded their lead to 4-1 at the 6:45 mark. Bouchard sent a long bank pass from his own zone and Leon Draisaitl pushed the puck from the Panthers blue line. Vasily Podkolzin hustled down the left wing and scored his fourth goal in 2025-26 on an acute-angle shot from the left goal line. Bobrovsky was replaced in net by Florida backup goalie Daniil Tarasov after the goal. 
      The Panthers responded and cut it to 4-2 with 9:56 to go in the second. Sam Bennet cycled the puck from the right wing. Uvis Balinskis connected a diagonal pass from the right point and Samoskevich blasted a one-time slap shot from the left circle for his third goal of the campaign. Samoskevich matched a career high with two points in one game.
      The Cats closed the gap to 4-3 on a power-play goal with 6:30 left in the period. Sam Reinhart carried the puck into the Oilers zone and passed to Lundell on the right wing. His shot was saved by Skinner, but Reinhart backhanded the puck into the cage for his 12th goal of the season. Brad Marchand had the secondary assist on the play. 
      Florida pulled their goalie for an extra skater with 2:50 to go in the third period. Connor McDavid got to the puck at the Oilers blue line. He outskated everyone down the ice and released a forehand shot from the inner left circle into an empty net with 2:40 remaining for his 10th goal this season. 
      The Oilers expanded it to 6-3 just 27 seconds later. Matt Savoie was able collect an empty-net goal with a wrist shot from above the right circle. 

Hurricanes Hustle By Virginia Tech

     The University of Miami Hurricanes topped  the Virginia Tech University Hokies 34-17 on Saturday in Virginia. The Hurricanes have won four straight ACC games. 
     Miami(9-2, 5-2) ran out to a 7-0 lead at the 10:16 mark of the first quarter. Carson Beck connected a 20-yard touchdown pass to Elija Lofton.
      Virginia Tech(3-8, 2-5) cut it to 7-3 with 6:18 left in the first. John Love was able to kick a 30-yard field goal
      In the second quarter, Beck tossed a three-yard pass to Mark Fletcher for a touchdown at 12:50 to give the Canes a 14 -3 lead. 
      Carter Davis booted a 46-yard field goal with 4:16 to go and a 40-yard field goal with 37 seconds remaining in the quarter. The Hurricanes had a 20-3 advantage at halftime.
       The Hokies closed it to 20-10 at the 11:59 mark of the third quarter. Jeffrey Overton Jr. had a touchdown run from 38 yards away.
       The Hurricanes increased it to 27-10 with 5;32 to go in the third. Girard Pringle Jr. caught a 16-yatd touchdown pass from Beck.

South Florida High Schools In Third Round

     There were 30 tri-county South Florida high schools that played in the second round of the 2025 FHSAA Playoffs. 17 of those teams advanced to the third round of the postseason. 
     Dade County moved from 12 teams to seven. Miami Northwestern, Miami Central, Southridge, Miami Palmetto, Goleman, Immaculata-La Salle and True North Academy won. Columbus, Miami Norland, Miami Killian, Ransom Everglades and Miami Edison fell. Key West from the Florida Keys did not advance. 
      Broward County went from 11 squads to seven. St. Thomas Aquinas, Chaminade-Madonna, American Heritage, Cardinal Gibbons, McArthur, West Broward and Archbishop McCarthy were victorious. Monarch, Piper, Coconut Creek and Plantation were defeated. 
     Palm Beach County dropped from seven high schools to three. West Boca Raton, Cardinal Newman and Pahokee advanced. Atlantic, Glades Central, St. Andrew's and Spanish River lost. 
     St. Lucie County now has no teams involved as Fort Pierce Central was defeated. Vero Beach still survived as the only team from Indian River County.

St. Thomas Aquinas Drops Coconut Creek

      The #1 St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders knocked off the #4 Coconut Creek Cougars 45-13 in a FHSAA Class 5A regional semifinal at Simmons Family Field in Fort Lauderdale on Friday night. The Raiders are three victories away from their state-record seventh consecutive state title and 17th overall state championship. 
      St. Thomas Aquinas(11-1) moved out to a 10-0 advantage in the first quarter. Coconut Creek(9-3) answered back late in the quarter and trailed 10-7. STA added a touchdown in the second quarter and led 17-7 at halftime. 
     The Raiders expanded their lead to 31-7 by the end of three quarters. Both teams combined for 20 points during the fourth quarter. 

Chaminade-Madonna Mashes Miami Edison

      The #1 Chaminade-Madonna Lions powered down the #4 Miami Edison Red Raiders 47-18 at Vince Zappone Field in Hollywood on Friday night in a FHSAA Class 1A regional semifinal. The Lions are three wins away from their fifth consecutive state title. 
      Chaminade-Madonna(9-2) jumped out to a 14-0 by the end of the first quarter. Miami Edison(6-5) scored six points during the second quarter and trailed 14-6 at halftime. 
     The Lions extended their lead to 28-12 by the conclusion of the third quarter. The Red Raiders were outscored 19-6 in the final quarter. 

Miami Northwestern Sandbags Key West

      The #1 Miami Northwestern Bulls broke the #4 Key West Conchs 56-6 in a FHSAA Class 3A regional semifinal. The game was played at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami. 
      Miami Northwestern(11-0) opened the scoring in the first quarter and led 14-6 at the end of the frame. Key West(7-5) gave up a touchdown during the second quarter and were down 21-6 at halftime. The Bulls compiled 35 more points in the second half for a comfortable victory. 

American Heritage Covers Plantation

      The #2 American Heritage Patriots bashed the #6 Plantation Colonels 48-7 at Bill Laurie Stadium in Plantation on Friday night in a FHSAA Class 4A regional semifinal. It was a battle between two high schools from the same city.
      American Heritage(6-5) blasted out to a 28-0 lead in the opening quarter. They added two more touchdowns for 41 unanswered points to begin the contest. Plantation(7-5) found the end zone late in the second quarter and trailed 41-7 at halftime. 
      A running clock was implemented during the second half. The Patriots were able to get one more touchdown in the fourth quarter for a 48-7 advantage. 

McArthur Squeezes By Atlantic

      The #2 Atlantic Eagles were upset by the #6 McArthur Mustangs 17-16 in a FHSAA Class 5A regional semifinal at Atlantic Stadium in Delray Beach on Friday night. It was a rare matchup between both high schools. 
      The first half belonged to McArthur(10-2). They put up 10 points in the first quarter and seven points in the second quarter for a 17-0 halftime lead.  
       Atlantic(10-2) got a touchdown and a field goal during the third quarter and trailed 17-10. The Eagles scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to make it 17-16, however the extra point was blocked by the Mustangs. 

West Boca Raton Beats East Lake

     The #2 West Boca Raton Bulls routed the #6 East Lake Eagles 48-7 on Friday night in a FHSAA Class 6A regional semifinal in Boca Raton. The Bulls are the reigning FHSAA Class 6A state champions. 
     West Boca Raton(10-2) was ahead 14-0 at the conclusion of the first quarter. East Lake(8-3) was down 20-0 by halftime. 
     The Bulls outscored the Eagles 21-7 during the third quarter and had a 41-7 lead. West Boca Raton got into the end zone one more time in the final quarter. 

Cardinal Gibbons Outduels Miami Killian

      The #2 Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs outscored the #3 Miami Killian Cougars 38-35 in a FHSAA Class 2A regional semifinal on Friday night at Dr. Bud Tight Field in Fort Lauderdale. It might have been considered the most competitive South Florida postseason game in the FHSAA Playoffs tonight.
     Cardinal Gibbons(9-3) took a 7-0 lead and were up 14-6 after one quarter. The Chiefs extended it to 21-6, but McArthur(8-3) scored two touchdowns in the second quarter and were down 21-20 at halftime.
     The Chiefs would make it 28-20 early in the third quarter. The Cougars answered back and led 35-31 at the end of the third quarter. Cardinal Gibbons scored a go-ahead touchdown in the final quarter for the win. 

Heat Clobber Bulls

      The Miami Heat smashed the Chicago Bulls 143-107 at United Center on Friday night in an NBA Cup contest. The Heat began a short two-game road swing. 
      Miami(10-6) had a 36-32 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Heat expanded their lead to 70-52 at halftime. 
      Chicago(8-7) fell more behind by the conclusion of the third quarter 102-75. Both clubs mainly used reserve players in the final quarter.
      Kel'el Ware led the Heat with a double-double of 20 points and 14 rebounds. Norman Powell scored 19 points and Bam Adebayo added 18 points. Ayo Dosunmu had a game-high 23 points for the Bulls.

Miami Central Routs Lely

     The #2 Miami Central Rockets blew out the #3 Lely Trojans 70-30 at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami on Thursday night in a FHSAA Class 3A regional semifinal. It was the only FHSAA Playoff game played in the entire state tonight. 
     Miami Central(10-1) sprinted out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter. Lely(8-4) broke the shutout and they were down 35-16 in the second quarter. The Rockets extended their lead to 56-22 by halftime.

Booker T. Washington Handles Hallandale

     The #3 Booker T. Washington Tornadoes held off the #2 Hallandale Chargers 33-22 at Carlton B. Campbell Stadium on Thursday night in Broward County. It was a regional final in the Florida Invitational Tournament 3A-1A southern bracket. 
      Booker T. Washington(3-8) moved out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Hallandale(6-5) found the end zone during the second quarter, however the Chargers were down 27-8 at halftime. 

Dr. Joaquin Garcia Edges Royal Palm Beach

      The #1 Dr. Joaquin Garcia Bulldogs pushed by the #5 Royal Palm Beach Wildcats 28-27 on Thursday night in a Florida Invitational Tournament 7A-4A southern bracket regional final. It was a clash between the two best Palm Beach County high school football teams that did not make the FHSAA Playoffs. 
      Royal Palm Beach(7-5) was able to lead 14-7 by the end of the first quarter. Dr. Joaquin Garcia(9-3) tied it up 14-14 in the second quarter.
      Both teams kept it close in the second half. The Bulldogs had a 28-27 advantage early in the fourth quarter. 

Palm Beach Gardens Falls To Fort Pierce Westwood

     The #3 Palm Beach Gardens Gators lost to the #7 Fort Pierce Westwood Panthers 24-20 in a Florida Invitational Tournament 7A-4A regional final game at Mullinax Ford Stadium on Thursday night. It was a rare battle between both high schools. 
      Palm Beach Gardens(5-7) got out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Fort Pierce Westwood(7-5) found themselves down 13-0 by halftime. 
      The Gators expanded their lead to 20-0 early in the third quarter.  The Panthers came back with 24 points for the remainder of the contest and got the victory. s

Panthers Blank Devils

      The Florida Panthers shut out the New Jersey Devils 1-0 at Amerant Bank Arena on Thursday night. The Panthers played in their fourth contest of a five-game homestand. Florida forward Jack Devine made his NHL debut against New Jersey(13-6-1) 
       Florida(11-8-1) jumped out to a 1-0 lead with 7:02 remaining in the first period. Gustav Forsling send a lead pass from the neutral zone. Sam Reinhart skated to the low left circle and scored his 11th goal if the season on a wrist shot. There was no scoring by either team in the second period and third period.

2025 FHSAA Playoffs First Round Results

      The first round of the 2025 FHSAA Playoffs occurred last week. 30 high schools from Palm Beach County, Broward County and Dade County advanced to the next round. 
      Class 7A in Region 3 saw #7 Dr. Phillips upset #2 Jupiter 24-21. #3 Fort Pierce Central edged #6 Palm Beach Central 28-27 while #1 Vero Beach destroyed #8 East Ridge 57-10.
       In Region 4, #1 Miami Palmetto blanked #8 Coral Glades 42-0. #2 Spanish River got by #7 Western 23-21. #5 Columbus surprised #4 Santaluces 28-3 and #3 Goleman slipped by #6 South Dade 30-28.    
       Class 6A in Region 4 ended up with several blowouts. #1 Southridge shut out #8 Nova 49-0, #3 Monarch punished #6 Doral Academy 39-0, #2 West Broward walloped #7 South Plantation 56-13 and #5 Piper squeezed by #4 Flanagan 24-12. Region 3 had #2 West Boca Raton bust through #7 Largo 35-7. 
       Region 4 in Class 5A resulted in #1 St. Thomas Aquinas stomping #8 Heritage 58-7. #2 Atlantic dominated #7 North Miami 55-0 and #4 Coconut Creek outbattled #5 Mater Academy 49-20. #6 McArthur went on the road and upended #3 Martin County 41-13.
       Class 4A in Region 4 had #1 Archbishop McCarthy beat #8 Hialeah 49-6 and #4 Miami Norland defeat #5 Jensen Beach 49-14. #2 American Heritage shelled #7 John Carroll Catholic 50-20 while #6 Plantation held off #3 Dillard 21-14. 
       Region 4 in Class 3A saw #1 Miami Northwestern pound #8 Somerset Academy 70-0. #2 Miami Central dismantled #7 St. Brendan 70-0 and #4 Key West outscored #5 Cypress Lake 44-34. 
       In Region 3 of Class 2A, #3 Glades Central outdueled #6 The King's Academy 23-6 while #2 Lakewood downed #7 Somerset Academy Canyons 52-7. #1 Cardinal Mooney canned #8 North Broward Prep 55-7 and #5 Bishop Verot forged by 22-14. 
       Region 4 happened to have #2 Cardinal Gibbons taking #7 Monsignor Pace 48-28. #3 Miami Killian stepped over #6 Carol City 38-21, #5 Ransom Everglades survived #4 Gulliver Prep 20-13 and #1 Immaculata-La Salle took Somerset Academy Silver Palms 42-7. 
       Class 1A in Region 4 had #1 Chaminade-Madonna dominate #8 St. John Paul II 63-0. #4 Miami Edison hammered #5 Westminster Christian 50-7, #3 St. Andrew's solved #6 Archbishop Carroll 54-20 and #2 True North Academy outhustled #7 Palmer Trinity 42-17. In Region 3, #2 Cardinal Newman blanked #7 Benjamin 37-0. 
       There was just one game in South Florida for Class Rural. #5 Pahokee was able to outpower over #12 Fort Meade 43-28. 

Warriors Fall To Heat

      The Miami Heat powered by the Golden State Warriors 110-96 at Kaseya Center on Wednesday night. The Heat, who are now 7-1 at home this season, completed a short two-game homestand.   
      Miami(9-6) raced out to a 29-20 advantage by the end of the first quarter. The Heat were able to stay in front 49-45 at halftime. 
      Golden State(9-8) eventually took the lead and were up 74-72 the the conclusion of the third quarter. The Heat had an 11-3 spurt at the beginning of the final quarter and outscored the Warriors 38-22 in the frame. 
       Andrew Wiggins finished up with 17 points and six rebounds against his former team. Bam Adebayo ended up with 20 points and seven rebounds while Norman Powell dropped in 25 points for Miami. Buddy Hield led the Warriors with 18 points while Brandin Podziemski had a team-high 20 points.

Tyler Huntley In Commercial

      Former Miami Dolphins quarterback Tyler Huntley was seen in a Progressive Insurance television commercial this past Sunday during NFL national game broadcasts. It was part of an advertising campaign that involved backup quarterbacks. Teddy Bridgewater was in a similar commercial last month. 
      Huntley played high school football with the Hallandale Chargers. After playing college football with the University of Utah, he had several stints with the Baltimore Ravens.

Panthers Leap Canucks

     The Florida Panthers drove by the Vancouver Canucks 8-5 at Amerant Bank Arena on Monday night. The Cats, who snapped a four-game losing streak to the Canucks, continued their long homestand. Panther goalie Sergei Bobrovsky passed Jacques Plante for ninth all-time in NHL history with 438 wins.
     Vancouver(9-10-1) got out to a 1-0 lead with 5:10 left in the first period. Quinn Hughes made a square pass from the right point and Tyler Myers blasted a slap shot from the top of the zone wide left of the net. Drew O'Connor brought the puck from the end wall and slipped a shot from the right goal line past Sergei Bobrovsky for his sixth goal of the campaign. 
      The Canucks expanded their lead to 2-0 on the power play just 24 seconds later. Hughes passed from the left point and Kiefer Sherwood zipped a pass from the left corner. Jake DeBrusk stuffed a shot from the right side of the crease for his eighth goal in 2025-26.
      Florida(10-8-1) closed it to 2-1 with 4:10 to go in the period. Sam Bennett dropped a pass above the right circle. Carter Verhaeghe centered it from the top right circle and A.J. Greer snapped a shot from the high slot past Jiri Patera for his fourth tally this year. 
      The Panthers tied it up 2-2 on a power-play goal with 7.7 seconds remaining in the first. Seth Jones scored his second goal of the season with a snap shot from the low right circle. Sam Reinhart and Bobrovsky were credited with assists on the play.
      The Cats jumped to their first lead of the contest 3-2 at the 2:23 mark of the second period. Gustav Forsling angled a pass from the right point to the left corner. Noah Gregor carried the puck through the left circle and the slot area. He backhanded the puck from the low right circle and Luke Kunin tapped in a shot from the blue paint for his first goal with his new team. Gregor collected his first point in a Florida Panthers jersey. 
      Florida got two more goals to increase their lead to 5-2. Evan Rodrigues put in his fifth goal while the team was shorthanded at 6:10. Anton Lundell would collect his fifth goal this season with a snap shot from the low left circle at 7:17.
      Vancouver cut the deficit to 5-3 at the 7:55 mark. Hughes forwarded the puck from center ice. Evander Kane sent a diagonal pass from the top right circle and Elias Petterson placed in a wrist shot from the low left circle for his fifth goal of the season. 
       In the third period, the Canucks made it 5-4 at 1:24. Sherwood centered the puck from the right wing. Petterson lifted a backhand shot from the low right circle for his second goal of the contest. 
      They tied it 5-5 with the man advantage at the 3:14 mark of the third. Max Sasson connected a cross-ice pass from the left-circle dot and Filip Hronek put in a forehand shot from the crease area for his first tally of the year. 
       The Panthers responded and reclaimed the lead 6-5 at 4:02. Niko Mikkola took a slap shot from the left point and Bennett redirected it in from the inner left circle for his fourth goal of the campaign.    
       It became 7-5 for Florida on a power-play goal with 11:41 left in the third period. Verhaeghe pushed the puck forward from the high slot. Reinhart passed from the left goal line and Jones snapped a shot from the inner right circle for his second goal of the game. 
       Florida increased it to 8-5 with 1:46 remaining in the third. Brad Marchand picked up an empty-net goal and extended his point streak to 11 games. 

Heat Hold Off Knicks

      The Miami Heat toppled the New York Knicks 115-113 on Monday night at Kaseya Center. Both teams faced each other in their last game three days ago at Madison Square Garden where the Knicks won.   
      Miami(8-6) was able to get out in front 25-20 by the end of the first quarter. The Heat kept the lead at halftime 55-51. 
      New York(8-5) cut the lead down to 83-82 at the conclusion of the third quarter. The Knicks had an 11-4 run in the final three minutes of the contest, however they fell short. 
      The Heat were led by Kel'el Ware with a double-double of 16 points, 14 rebounds and three blocked shots. Norman Powell was able to contribute a club-high 19 points. Miles McBride had a game-high 25 points for the Knicks while Karl-Anthony Towns added 22 points and 15 rebounds.

South Florida High Schools In Second Round

      There were 58 tri-county South Florida high schools that entered the 2025 FHSAA Playoffs. 30 of those teams were able to advance to the second round of the postseason. 
      Dade County went from 25 teams to 12. Columbus, Miami Northwestern, Miami Central, Miami Palmetto, Southridge, Goleman, Miami Norland, Miami Killian, Miami Edison, Ransom Everglades, Immaculata-La Salle and True North Academy won. South Dade, Doral Academy, Mater Academy, Gulliver Prep, North Miami, Carol City, Hialeah, Monsignor Pace, St. Brendan, Somerset Academy Silver Palms, Westminster Christian, Palmer Trinity and Archbishop Carroll lost. Key West from the Florida Keys also advanced. 
      Broward County dropped from 19 high schools to 11. Chaminade-Madonna, St. Thomas Aquinas, American Heritage, Cardinal Gibbons, Monarch, Plantation, Piper, West Broward, Coconut Creek, McArthur and Archbishop McCarthy were victorious. Dillard, Western, Coral Glades, Nova, Flanagan, South Plantation, North Broward Prep and Calvary Christian Academy fell. 
      Palm Beach County moved from 14 teams to seven.  Atlantic, West Boca Raton, Glades Central, Pahokee, Cardinal Newman, Spanish River and St. Andrew's advanced. Palm Beach Central, Jupiter, Santaluces, Somerset Academy Canyons, The King's Academy, Benjamin and St. John Paul II were eliminated.
      Martin County changed from two squads to none remaining in the FHSAA Playoffs. Both Martin County and Jensen Beach were defeated. 
      St. Lucie County shifted from two high schools to one. Fort Pierce Central moved to the next round while John Carroll Catholic lost. Vero Beach from Indian River County also won. 

Dolphins Sneak By Commanders

     The Miami Dolphins outdueled the Washington Commanders 16-13 in overtime at Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, Spain on Sunday. The Dolphins played a rare NFL game in Europe. 
     The Fins have won two straight games while the Commanders have lost six consecutive contests. Both teams kicked two field goals each in the first half for a 6-6 tie at halftime.
     Washington(3-8) moved in front 13-6 at the 11:24 mark of the third quarter. Marcus Mariota tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Deebo Samuel Sr. on the right side.
      In the fourth quarter, Miami(4-7) answered back at 12:36 to tie it up 13-13. Ollie Gordon II busted up the middle from one yard out. 
      The contest would go into overtime. The Commanders turned the ball over during their first offensive play on an interception. The Dolphins won the game on a Riley Patterson 29-yard field goal with 7:33 remaining.

Lightning Stop Panthers

     The Tampa Bay Lightning edged the Florida Panthers 3-1 on Saturday night at Amerant Bank Arena. It was a rematch of last year's Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Both clubs have won four of the last six Stanley Cups.
     Tampa Bay(9-6-2) broke out to a 1-0 lead with 7:41 remaining in the first period. Nikita Kucherov made a square pass from the high slot and Emil Lilleberg snapped a shot from the top left circle past Sergei Bobrovsky for his second tally this year.
     Florida(9-8-1) evened it up 1-1 on the power play with 8:29 to go in the second period. Anton Lundell won a faceoff in the left circle and Sam Reinhart angled a back pass. Brad Marchand scooted to the middle and backhanded a shot in from the slot area by Andrei Vasilevskiy for his 12th goal of the season.
     In the third period, the Lightning reclaimed the lead 2-1 at the 4:09 mark. Jack Finley skated in on a breakaway and scored his first NHL goal on a backhand shot from the crease area.
     The Cats pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with 3:06 remaining. The Bolts increased it to 3-1 with 50.3 seconds left in the third on an empty-net goal from Zemgus Girgensons.

Hurricanes Attack North Carolina State

     The University of Miami Hurricanes were victorious over the North Carolina State University Wolfpack 41-7 at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday. 
     Miami(8-2, 4-2) got out to a 3-0 lead with a 31-yard field goal by Carter Davis at 7:16 of the opening quarter. 
     North Carolina State(5-5, 2-4) quarterback C.J. Bailey would throw an interception to the right side. Jakobe Thomas returned it 55 yards for a score to make it 10-0 with 3:36 left in the first.
      In the second quarter, the Hurricanes made it 17-0 at the 11:16 mark. CharMar Brown rushed the ball in from one yard away.
      The Canes made it 24-0 with 33 seconds to go in the first half.  Carson Beck fired a 14-yard touchdown pass to Malachi Toney on the right side.
      It became 31-0 for Miami at 9:55 of the third quarter. Elija Lofton caught a 29-yard touchdown toss from Beck. Davis booted a 38-yard field goal to with 3:51 left in the third.

St. Thomas Aquinas Socks Heritage

      The #1 St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders slammed the #8 Heritage Panthers 58-7 at Simmons Family Field in Fort Lauderdale on Friday night in the FHSAA Class 5A regional quarterfinals. The Raiders will attempt to capture their state-record seventh straight state title and 17th overall state championship this year.  
      St. Thomas Aquinas(10-1) rolled out to a 35-0 lead in the first half. Heritage(4-7) scored a touchdown to get on the scoreboard, however they trailed 42-7 at halftime. The Raiders piled on 16 more points in the second half.

Glades Central Tops The King's Academy

      The #3 Glades Central Raiders defeated The King's Academy Lions 23-6 on Friday night in a FHSAA Class 2A regional quarterfinal at Effie C Grear Field in Belle Glade. The Raiders have not won a state title since 2006. Both high schools faced each other in Week 10 on October 24.
      Glades Central(10-1) held a 7-0 advantage at halftime. The Raiders extended their lead to 23-0 early in the fourth quarter. The King's Academy(5-6) avoided the shutout with a touchdown.

Chaminade-Madonna Clobbers St. John Paul II

      The #1 Chaminade-Madonna Lions walloped the #8 St. John Paul II Eagles 63-0 in a FHSAA Class 1A regional quarterfinal at Vince Zappone Field in Hollywood on Friday night. The Lions will try ro win their fifth straight state championship.
      Chaminade-Madonna(8-2) scored 28 points in the opening quarter and 28 points in the second quarter for a 56-0 halftime lead. A running clock was implemented for the second half and St. John Paul II(3-6) gave up seven more points.

Atlantic Waves Over North Miami

     The #2 Atlantic Eagles smashed the #7 North Miami Pioneers 55-0 at Atlantic Stadium in Delray Beach on Friday night in the FHSAA Class 5A regional quarterfinals. 
     Atlantic(10-1) rocketed out to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter and held a 48-0 halftime lead. North Miami(7-4) allowed seven points with a running clock during the entire second half of play. 

American Heritage Powers By John Carroll

      The #2 American Heritage Patriots stormed by the #7 John Carroll Catholic Rams 50-20 in the FHSAA Class 4A regional quarterfinals on Friday night. The Patriots, the defending Class 4A state champions, played their first home playoff game at the newly named Bill Laurie Stadium in Plantation.
      John Carroll Catholic(8-3) was down 13-7 at halftime. American Heritage(5-5) led 30-20 at the end of the third quarter. The Patriots scored 20 unanswered points during the final quarter.

Cardinal Gibbons Downs Monsignor Pace

      The #2 Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs shifted by the #7 Monsignor Pace Spartans 48-28 in the FHSAA Class 2A regional quarterfinals at Dr.Bud Tight Field in Fort Lauderdale on Friday night. The venue has always been known as The Furnace because there were no night games due to no overhead lights.      
      Cardinal Gibbons(8-3) moved ahead 14-0 and had a 21-7 advantage after one quarter. The Chiefs expanded their lead to 35-7 early in the third quarter. Monsignor Pace(4-7) saw a 28-point deficit they could not overcome.

Miami Central Mauls St. Brendan

      The #2 Miami Central Rockets demolished the #7 St. Brendan Sabres 70-0 in the FHSAA Class 3A regional quarterfinals on Friday night. It was held at Traz Powell Stadium in Miami.
      Miami Central(9-1) bulldozed St. Brendan(4-7) with 56 points in the first half. The Rockets scored 14 more points in the second half with a running clock.

Dillard Loses To Plantation

     The #3 Dillard Panthers fell to the #6 Plantation Colonels 21-14 in a FHSAA Class 4A regional quarterfinal at Otis Gray Jr. Memorial Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Friday night. It was a battle between two Broward County teams four miles away from each other on Sunrise Boulevard. 
      Plantation(7-4) scooted out in the first quarter to a 13-0 lead. Dillard(10-1) came back with two touchdowns to take a 14-13 lead by halftime. The Colonels regained the lead 21-14 on a pick-six interception during the third quarter.

Knicks Outduel Heat

      The New York Knicks outscored the Miami Heat 140-132 at Madison Square Garden on Friday night. The Heat will host the Knicks on Monday in a home-and-home series. 
      Miami(7-6) climbed out to a 35-32 advantage at the end of one quarter. New York(8-4) zipped by them to lead 78-68 at halftime.  
      The Heat were able to cut the lead and trailed 110-104 at the conclusion of the third quarter. The Knicks held their opponent off in the final quarter. 
      Karl-Anthony Towns composed a double-double for New York with 39 points, 11 rebounds and four assists. Norman Powell helped Miami with 38 points in the defeat. Josh Hart contributed 10 assists and 12 rebounds.

Miami Northwestern Pounds Somerset Academy

      The #1 Miami Northwestern Bulls destroyed the #8 Somerset Academy Panthers 70-0 on Thursday night in a FHSAA Class 3A regional quarterfinal at Traz Powell Stadium. It was the first South Florida contest played in the 2025 FHSAA Playoffs. 
      Miami Northwestern(10-0) piled on 28 points in the opening quarter. Somerset Academy(4-7) surrendered 21 more points during the second quarter and trailed 49-0 at halftime. The Bulls added 13 points in the third quarter and eight points in the fourth quarter.

Oasis Rides By Inlet Grove

     The #4 Oasis Sharks outclassed the #5 Inlet Grove Hurricanes 24-0 in a FHSAA Florida Invitational Tournament 3A-1A regional semifinal in Cape Coral on Thursday night.  
     Inlet Grove(5-5) was down 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Oasis(4-6) added 10 more points in the second quarter for a 17-0 halftime lead.

Matthew Tkachuk Launches Podcast Series

      Florida Panthers right wing Matthew Tkachuk will begin as a series podcast co-host with his brother Ottawa Senators center Brady Tkachuk. Wave Sports & Entertainment will introduce the digital talk series Wingmen starring today. 
      Tkachuk is in his fourth season with Florida. He has contributed to the Panthers capturing two Stanley Cup titles and three Eastern Conference  championships.

Royal Palm Beach Blanks Palm Beach Lakes

      The #5 Royal Palm Beach Wildcats shut out the #4 Palm Beach Lakes Rams 32-0 in the FHSAA 7A-4A  Florida Invitational Tourament regional semifinals on Thursday night. It was a clash between two Palm Beach County teams.
      Royal Palm Beach(7-4) broke out to a 14-0 during the first half. Palm Beach Lakes(6-5) gave up 18 more points in the final two quarters.

Palm Beach Gardens Drops Centennial

      The #3 Palm Beach Gardens Gators downed the #6 Centennial Eagles 29-8 at Mullinax Ford Stadium in the FHSAA Florida Invitational Tournament 7A-4A regional semifinals on Thursday night. The Gators are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their last FHSAA state football championship. 
      Palm Beach Gardens(5-6) opened up with a 6-0 advantage in the first quarter. Centennial(5-6) found themselves behind 13-0 at halftime. 
      The Gators scored another touchdown in the third quarter and led 20-0. The Eagles came as close as 23-8 during the fourth quarter.

Dr. Joaquin Garcia Outscores Sarasota

      The #1 Dr. Joaquin Garcia Bulldogs outlasted the #8 Sarasota Sailors 55-33 in Palm Beach County on Thursday night. It was in the FHSAA 7A-4A Florida Invitational Tourament regional semifinals. The Bulldogs are in just their third year as a high school football program. 
      It was a scoring slugfest during the first half of the contest. Dr. Joaquin Garcia(8-3) led Sarasota(4-7) 28-21 at halftime. 
      Sarasota closed it to 35-33 before the conclusion of the third quarter. The Bulldogs pulled away with 20 points in the final quarter.

Fort Pierce Westwood Shocks Miramar

      The #2 Miramar Patriots were surprised by the #7 Fort Pierce Westwood Panthers 14-8 on Thursday night in Broward County. It was in the FHSAA Florida Invitational Tournament regional semifinals involving 7A to 4A squads.
      It turned out to a low-scoring game than what was expected with fine defensive play.  Following a Miramar(4-7) touchdown in the first quarter, Fort Pierce Westwood(6-5) was able to get ahead 14-8 by halftime.

Three Schools Out From FIT

      Three high schools have decided not to participate in the first FHSAA Florida Invitational Tournament for Class 3A to Class 1A. It happened in the southern bracket. 
      #8 Dunedin will not travel to #1 North Miami Beach, #7 Palm Bay will not visit #2 Hallandale and #6 Miami Springs will not face #3 Booker T. Washington. All three home teams will get a bye to the next round. The only contest that will be played tonight in the bracket is #5 Inlet Grove at #4 Oasis.

Panthers Push By Capitals

      The Florida Panthers outhustled the Washinton Capitals 6-3 at Amerant Bank Arena on Thursday night. The Panthers were coming off a four-game road swing on the west coast. They began a stretch with 11 of their 12 games at home.
      Panthers center Brad Marchand collected his 1,000th NHL point of his career. Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin made his first appearance in Sunrise since setting the NHL all-time record for the most goals scored.
     Washington(8-8-1) busted out to a 1-0 lead at the 8:25 mark of the first period. Rasmus Sandin released a shot from the right point and Brandon Duhaime redirected it from the slot area past Daniil Tarasov for his third tally this season.
     Florida(9-7-1) answered back just 28 seconds later to tie it up 1-1. Sam Reinhart dumped the puck in from the red line. Niko Mikkola sent a shot from the left wing which was saved. Evan Rodrigues scored his fourth goal of the season on a snap shot from the high slot.
     In the second period, the Panthers leaped to a 2-1 lead at 3:05. Eetu Luostarinen zipped a pass from the right corner to Gustav Forsling on the right point. His shot was deflected in by Cole Schwindt from the inner right circle for his second goal of the year.
     The Cats added a power-play goal with 5:19 remaining in the second and led 3-1. Seth Jones made a square pass from the right point and Carter Verhaeghe rifled a shot from the left point which was stopped. Reinhart backhanded the puck in from the top of the crease for his ninth goal in 2025-26. 
     The Caps closed it to 3-2 when Justin Sourdif tipped the puck in the cage 52 seconds into the third period. The Panthers answered back with a goal by Reinhart and a power-play goal from Seth Jones before the midway point of the period for a two-goal margin 5-3.
     Sandin helped the Capitals cut the deficit to 5-3 with 7:20 to go on a snap shot. Florida would put the game away with 1:30 left on a Luostarinen empty-net goal from center ice off a feed from Marchand. It ended up being Marchand's 1,000th career point on the play.

Cavaliers Can Heat

     The Cleveland Cavaliers paid back the Miami Heat 130-116 at Kaseya Center on Wednesday night. It was the second time in three days that both clubs had a a contest against each other at the same venue.  
     Miami(7-5) chalked up a 38-29 lead by the conclusion of the opening quarter. The Heat still led 69-66 at halftime.
     Cleveland(8-4) were behind 97-93 at the end of the third quarter. The Cavs outscored the Heat 37-19 during the fourth quarter and picked up the 130-116 win.
     Norman Powell scored a team-high 27 points for Miami. Jarrett Allen had a double-double for the Cavaliers with 30 points and 10 rebounds.

Brian Boyle Rangers Game Analyst

      Former Florida Panthers center Brian Boyle has added to his broadcasting resume. He debuted as the backup game analyst of New York Rangers telecasts on MSG Network alongside television play-by-play announcer Kenny Albert this past Friday.
      Boyle continues as a studio analyst on NHL Network. He once played with the Panthers for one season in 2019-20. Boyle compiled six goals and nine assists for 15 points in 39 games with Florida.

Panthers Topple Golden Knights

      The Florida Panthers powered by the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 at T-Mobile Arena on Monday night. It was a rematch of the 2023 Stanley Cup Final between both clubs. 
      The Panthers completed a four-game road trip. Sergei Bobrovsky tied Jacques Plante for ninth all-time in goalie wins with 437.
      In the first period, Florida(8-7-1) skated out to a 1-0 advantage with 5:13 remaining. Jeff Petry snapped a shot wide from the right point. Donovan Sebrango made a square pass from the left point and Jesper Boqvist one-timed a slap shot from the top of the zone for his fourth goal this season. It was the first NHL point for Sebrango.
      The Panthers increased it to 2-0 with 9:06 to go in the second. Sebrango touched the puck and Gustav Forsling cleared the zone with a lead bank pass. Brad Marchand skated through the left circle and backhanded a shot from the low slot for his 11th goal of the season.
      Vegas(7-4-4) closed it to 2-1 at the 1:25 mark of the third period. Tomas Hertl collected his sixth goal in 2025-26 when he placed in a forehand shot from the top of the crease past Bobrovsky.
       It became 3-1 for the Cats on the power play at 4:54. Marchand angled a pass from the right wing. Seth Jones blasted a shot from the right point that was deflected in by Sam Reinhart in the slot area for his eighth goal of the campaign. 
      The Golden Knights cut it to 3-2 at 9:04. Ivan Barbashev snapped a shot from the low right circle for his seventh tally of the year.

Heat Withstand Cavaliers

      The Miami Heat got by the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Miami Heat 140-138 in overtime on Monday night at Kaseya Center. Both of these two teams will face each other in the same venue two days from now. 
      Cleveland(7-4) broke out to a 16-8 lead and were up 30-25 after one quarter. Miami(7-4) overcame in the quarter and had a 62-53 halftime lead.
      Both teams scored 39 points during the third quarter and the Heat led 101-92. The Cavs went on a 19-7 run to begin the fourth quarter, however it was tied 128-128 at the end of regulation. 
      Miami outscored the Cavaliers 12-10 in overtime. Nikola Jovic sent an inbound ally-oop pass and Andrew Wiggins made a slam dunk with no time remaining in the extra session.
      Norman Powell finished with 33 points for the Heat while Wiggins had 23 points. Jaime Jaquez Jr. was able to score 22 points. Donovan Mitchell led the Cavs with a double-double of 28 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists.

Joe Thornton In Hockey Hall Of Fame

      Former Florida Panthers center Joe Thornton was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto on Monday night. He played the majority of his NHL career with the San Jose Sharks. 
     He participated with the Panthers for one season in 2021-22. Thornton ended up with five goals and five assists for 10 points in 34 games with Florida.

FHSAA Florida Invitational Tournaments

     The FHSAA has introduced the Florida Invitational Tournament in high school football for this year. There will be three different tournaments held with 16 high schools each. The tournaments will begin on Thursday.
     The largest classifications will be from Class 7A to Class 4A. There will be seven South Florida five-county teams in the Southern bracket.
     The #3 Palm Beach Gardens Gators will host the #6 Centennial Eagles. The #8 Sarasota Sailors make a long trip and face the #1 Dr. Joaquin Garcia Bulldogs. It will be a Palm Beach County battle as the #4 Palm Beach Lakes Rams challenge the #5 Royal Palm Beach Wildcats. The #2 Miramar Patriots will stay at home versus the #7 Fort Pierce Westwood Panthers.
     The smaller classifications will be from Class 3A to Class 1A. There are five local squads in that southern bracket. 
     #1 North Miami Beach will host Dunedin while #2 Hallandale is home against #7 Palm Bay. #6 Miami Springs is at #3 Booker T. Washington and #5 Inlet Grove is at #4 Oasis.

Dolphins Upend Bills

      The Buffalo Bills were upset by the Miami Dolphins 30-13 at Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday. The Dolphins are five games behind for first place in the AFC East Division.

Heat Outduel Trail Blazers

      The Miami Heat outscored the Portland Trail Blazers 136-131 on Saturday night at Kaseya Center. The Heat were playing home games on back-to-back nights.
      Portland(5-4) moves out to a 30-27 lead at the end of the first quarter. Miami(6-4) responded and had a 72-65 lead at halftime. 
      The Heat had a slight 100-97 advantage at the conclusion of the third quarter. The Heat were able to hold off the Trail Blazers in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. 
      Nikola Jovic helped Miami with team highs of 20 points and seven assists. Jaime Jaquez Jr. contributed 12 rebounds. Deni Avdija compiled a double-double for Portland with a game-high 33 points along with 11 rebounds.

Sharks Bite Panthers

      The Florida Panthers fell to the San Jose Shark's 3-1 at SAP Center on Saturday night. The Panthers will conclude their four-game road slate on Monday in Las Vegas.
      In the first period, San Jose (7-6-3) chalked up a 1-0 lead with 2:35 left. Aaron Ekblad had the puck stolen by Will Smith in the right corner. He centered it and Macklin Celebrini released a wrist shot from the low slot for his 10th goal this season.
      The Sharks made it 2-0 at the 3:06 mark of the second period. Dmitry Orlov lifted a shot from the left wing and Adam Gaudette redirected it from the crease area by Daniil Tarasov for his fourth tally of the campaign.
      Florida(7-7-1) answered back 28 seconds later and cut it to 2-1. Brad Marchand got to a rebound and backhanded a shot into the cage from the top of the crease past Yaroslav Askarov for his 10th goal of the season. Anton Lundell and Eetu Luostarinen were credited with assists on the play.
      The Panthers pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with 2:45 to go in the third period. Former Panthers player Alexander Wennberg raced down the ice, picked up the loose puck in the high slot and steered it into an empty net on a backhand shot for his fourth tally of the year with 50.4 seconds remaining in the third.

Inter Miami CF Advances In Game 3

      Inter Miami CF stomped Nashville SC 4-0  in Game 3 of the 2025 MLS Cup first round at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale on Saturday night. The Herons won the best-of-three series 2-1. Inter Miami CF will visit FC Cincinnati in the Eastern Conference Semifinals two weeks from now. 
     The Herons advanced to the next round. They were upset in the first round last year after they captured the MLS Supporters' Sheild.  
      It just took just 10 minutes into the first half for Inter Miami CF to lead 1-0. Lionel Messi fired a left-footed shot from 19 yards away. 
      He added another goal from 20 yards out with his left foot in the 39th minute for a 2-0 advantage. It was his 15th career goal against Nashville SC.  
      The Herons kept their momentum during the second half. The Herons extended their lead to 3-0 as Tadeo Allende scored in the 73rd minute as he tapped in a seven-yard shot off a feed from Jordi Alba.
       It became 4-0 for Inter Miami CF during the 76th minute. Messi sent a lead pass from the midfield line. Allende went in alone on a breakaway and lobbed a right-footed shot from 18 yards.

Hurricanes Freeze Syracuse

     The University of Miami Hurricanes stepped over the Syracuse Orange 38-10 on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium. The Hurricanes have won two of their last four games. 
     Miami(7-2, 3-2) scored 14 points in 23 seconds late the second quarter. The Canes used a trick play with 2:13 to go when Malachi Toney threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to Carson Beck. It became 14-0 when Keionte Scott intercepted a pass and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown with 1:50 remaining     
      Syracuse(3-6, 1-5) was able to break the shutout on their first possession of the second half to make it 14-3. Tripp Woody booted a 38-yard field goal at the 11:17 mark of the third quarter. 
      The Hurricanes answered back and increased it to 21-3 at 9:57. Beck fired a 61-yard touchdown strike to Keelan Marion in the middle of the field.
      Miami made it 28-3 when Girard Pringle Jr. Rushed in for a score from 19 yards out with 2:25 remaining. Carter Davis would later add a 36-yard field goal with four seconds to go in the third for a 28-point margin.
      The U extended their lead to 38-3 with 2:53 left in the fourth quarter. Beck sent a cross-field lateral pass to the right side and Francis Mauigoa rumbled into the end zone from three yards away.
      The Orange cut the lead to 38-10 with 21 seconds to go. Jospeh Filardi tossed a 17-yard touchdown toss to Elijah Washington-Baker.

Heat Rocket By Hornets

      The Miami Heat powered by the Charlotte Hornets 126-108 at Kaseya Center on Friday night. The Heat played in their first NBA Cup game this year and were coming off a four-game road trip. 
      Miami(5-4) rushed out to a 33-21 lead and were up 53-33 after one quarter. The 53 points was the highest-scoring quarter for the Heat in their 38-season franchise history. It also was the second-highest amount scored by one team during the first quarter in NBA history. 
      Charlotte(3-6) got 18 consecutive points and trailed 64-56 with 3:52 left in the second quarter. They outscored Miami 36-19 in the second and were down 72-69 at halftime.
      The Hornets found themselves trailing 94-88 at the conclusion of the third quarter. The Heat pulled away during the final quarter. 
       Jaime Jaquez Jr. guided Miami with 18 points, nine assists and eight rebounds in the victory. Norman Powell was able to drop in 25 points. Kon Knueppel led Charlotte with a game-high 30 points.

2025 FHSAA Class 7A Football Playoff Brackets

      The FHSAA Playoffs in Class 7A is wide open. There are 12 representatives from the South Florida area in the classification. 
      Region 4 has #1 Miami Palmetto hosting #8 Coral Glades and #4 Santaluces at home against #5 Columbus next week in the regional quarterfinals. #7 Western travels to #2 Spanish River and #6 South Dade is off to #3 Goleman. 
      In Region 3, #1 Vero Beach will host #8 East Ridge. #6 Palm Beach Central is at #3 Fort Pierce Central while #7 Dr. Phillips is at #2 Jupiter.

2025 FHSAA Class 6A Football Playoff Brackets

    The FHSAA Class 6A playoff bracket has nine South Florida teams in two different regions. The state champion from last year came within the tri-county area. 
    The West Boca Raton Bulls are the reigning FHSAA Class 6A state champions. They became the first Palm Beach County high school football team in almost a decade to capture a state title. The only local squad in Region 3 as the #2 seed will host #7 Largo. 
    In Region 4, #8 Nova goes to #1 Southridge while #6 Mater Academy heads to #3 Monarch. The other regional quarterfinals next week are #5 Piper at #4 Flanagan and #7 South Plantation at #2 South Broward.

2025 FHSAA Class 5A Football Playoff Brackets

      Seven South Florida high schools will be represented inside Region 4 in the FHSAA Class 5A playoff bracket. One team has shown its dominance in Florida high school football since 2007.
      The St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders are the defending FHSAA Class 5A state champions. STA has won a state-record six consecutive FHSAA state titles and 16 overall state championships. The #1 seed will host #8 Heritage in the first round next week.
      There are other regional quarterfinal games in Region 4. #7 North Miami is at #2 Atlantic, #5 Mater Academy is at #4 Coconut Creek and #6 McArthur is at #3 Martin County.

2025 FHSAA Class 4A Football Playoff Brackets

      The FHSAA Class 4A playoff bracket has eight teams from South Florida. This could be a battle just to get out of Region 4. 
      The reigning FHSAA Class 4A state champions the #2 American Heritage Patriots will be at home against #7 John Carroll Catholic while #1 Archbishop McCarthy will host #8 Hialeah in a week. #6 Plantation is at #3 Dillard and #5 Jensen Beach is at #4 Miami Norland in the regional quarterfinals.

2025 FHSAA Class 3A Football Playoff Brackets

     The FHSAA Class 3A classification is not well known. There are just five high schools from the southeastern portion of Florida and they are in Region 4. 
     The defending FHSAA Class 3A state champions the #1 Miami Northwestern Bulls will host #8 Somerset Academy in a regional quarterfinal next week. #2 Miami Central takes on #7 St. Brendan while #5 Cypress Lake makes a long trip to #4 Key West.

2025 FHSAA Class 2A Football Playoff Brackets

      The FHSAA Class 2A playoff bracket has no local favorite. There are 13 South Florida high schools involved.  
      Region 4 has #8 Somerset Academy Silver Palms at #1 Immaculata-La Salle and #5 Ransom Everglades at #4 Gulliver Prep. #2 Cardinal Gibbons hosts #7 Monsignor Pace while #6 Carol City visits #3 Miami Killian.
      In Region 3, #6 The King's Academy Lions challenge the #3 Glades Central Raiders. Other regional quarterfinal contests next week include #7 Somerset Academy Canyons facing #2 Lakewood, #8 North Broward Prep going to #1 Cardinal Mooney and #5 Bishop Verot heading to #4 Calvary Christian Academy.

2025 FHSAA Class 1A Football Playoff Brackets

      The FHSAA Class 1A classification has 10 South Florida high schools involved. One school has dominated this classification in recent years. 
      In Region 4, the reigning FHSAA Class 1A state champions the #1 Chaminade-Madonna Lions will host #8 St. John Paul II next week in a regional quarterfinal. Other matchups include #5 Westminster Christian at #4 Miami Edison, #7 Palmer Trinity at #2 True North Academy and #6 Archbishop Carroll at #3 St. Andrew's. 
      Region 3 has just two local schools face each other. The #7 Benjamin Buccaneers visit the #2 Cardinal Newman Crusaders in the regional quarterfinals.

2025 FHSAA Class Rural Football Playoff Brackets

     The FHSAA classification of Class Rural will have four rounds in the postseason. The championship game will be played in The Villages.
     There is just one South Florida high school represented in this tournament. The #5 Pahokee Blue Devils will host #12 Fort Meade next week in the first round.

2025 FHSAA Playoffs Local County Breakdown

     The 2025 FHSAA high school football postseason will begin next week. There will be 58 high school teams from the South Florida tri-county region.
     There are eight different classifications this year. Seven of the eight FHSAA state championships will be played on South Dade Kia Field at Pitbull Stadium on the Florida International University campus in December.
      Dade County will have 26 high schools involved. They include Miami Northwestern, Southridge, Miami Central, Miami Norland, Carol City, Miami Killian, Columbus, Miami Palmetto, Hialeah, Miami Edison, Archbishop McCarthy, Mater Academy, Doral Academy, Monsignor Pace, Gulliver Prep, Goldman, Ransom Everglades, Palmer Trinity, Immaculata-La Salle, True North Academy, South Dade, North Miami, St. Brendan, Archbishop Carroll, Somerset Academy Silver Palms and Westminster Academy. Key West is the lone school from the Florida Keys. 
      Broward County will consist of 18 teams. They are St. Thomas Aquinas, Cardinal Gibbons, Western, Chaminade-Madonna, American Heritage, Monarch, Dillard, Plantation, South Plantation, Piper, Nova, Flanagan, Coconut Creek, Coral Glades, North Broward Prep, Calvary Christian Academy, McArthur and West Broward.
      Palm Beach County ends up with 14 representatives. They will have Palm Beach Central, Atlantic, Jupiter, West Boca Raton, Glades Central, Pahokee, Cardinal Newman, Benjamin, The King's Academy, Santaluces, Spanish River, St. Andrew's, Somerset Academy Canyons and St. John Paul II. 
     St. Lucie County has two high schools with Fort Pierce Central and John Carroll Catholic. Martin County has two squads with Jensen Beach and Martin County while Indian River County has just one school with Vero Beach.

West Palm Beach Ratings October 2025

      West Palm Beach sports talk radio stations were issued their ratings. The time span went from the third week in September to the third week in October.  
       Sports Radio 1230 The Gambler WBZT-AM stayed at a 0.1 for the period. The Miami Marlins ended up third in the National League East Division. The University of Florida Gators football team had a 2-4 record. 
       Fox Sports 640 WMEN-AM remained at a 0.1 for the month. The Florida Atlantic University Owls football team had an average record of 3-3. 
       ESPN West Palm 106.3 WUUB-FM became the West Palm Beach affiliate of the Florida Panthers Radio Network. They have the flagship radio station rights of Inter Miami CF along with being the West Palm Beach affiliate of the Miami Dolphins, the Miami Heat and the University of Miami Hurricanes football team. 

Panthers Oust Kings

      The Florida Panthers marched by the Los Angeles Kings 5-2 at Crypto.com Arena on Thursday night. The Panthers continued their trip on the west coast.
      Florida(7-6-1) rocketed out to a 1-0 lead at the 2:06 mark of the first period. Jesper Boqvist passed from the right corner. Jeff Petry took a shot from the right point which was saved by Anton Forsberg. Sam Bennett lifted a wrist shot from the left of the crease for his third goal this season.
       Los Angeles(6-5-4) evened it up 1-1 at 9:23 of the period with the man advantage. Anze Kopitar, in his final NHL season, got his first tally this year on a deflection at the top of the crease following an Adrian Kempe shot from the top of the zone.
      The Kings made it 2-1 with 9:00 remaining in the first. Mikey Anderson connected a long lead pass from his own right circle. Corey Perry got the puck at the Cats blue line for a breakaway and placed in a wrist shot from the high slot pass Sergei Bobrovsky for his sixth goal with his new team.
      The Panthers tied it 2-2 with 2:30 to go. Brad Marchand stole the puck from the goalie behind the cage put in his eighth goal into an open net from the right goal line. Aaron Ekblad was credited with an assist on the play. 
       In the second period, the Cats regained the lead 3-2 with 8:15 left. Sam Reinhart pushed the puck ahead from the top right circle. Carter Verhaeghe centered it from the right goal line and Reinhart scored his seventh goal of the campaign on a backhand shot from the low slot. 
       It became 4-2 for Florida on a shorthanded goal at the 8:41 mark of the third period. Anton Lundell scored on a forehand shot from the slot area off a backhand lead pass by Eetu Luostarinen. 
       The Panthers expanded it to 5-2 with 7:24 to go in the third. Niko Mikkola stopped a clearing pass at the Kings blue line. Marchand chalked up his second goal of the contest and ninth goal this season on a snap shot from the inner right circle.

Nuggets Drive By Heat

      The Denver Nuggets downed the Miami Heat 122-112 on Wednesday night at Ball Arena. The Heat completed a four-game road swing. 
      Denver(5-2) battled out to a 36-33 advantage at the end of the first quarter. The Nuggets held a 68-60 halftime lead. 
      Miami(4-4) fell behind more and trailed 101-86 at the conclusion of the third quarter. They cut the margin slightly during the fourth quarter. 
      Nikola Jovic finished with a triple-double of 33 points, 16 assists and 15 rebounds for the Nuggets. Norman Powell scored a team-high 23 points for the Heat. Kel'el Ware compiled 13 rebounds in a losing effort.

Don Mattingly Baseball Hall Of Fame Nominee

      Former Miami Marlins manager Don Mattingly was nominated by the contemporary baseball era committee of the National Baseball Hall of Fame as a finalist. The election will be held on Decembar 7 in Orlando.
     Mattingly spent his entire MLB playing career with the New York Yankees from 1982 to 1995. He was the Miami Marlins manager from 2016 to 2022. Mattingly is currently the bench coach with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Ducks Expose Panthers

    The Anaheim Ducks pulled away from the Florida Panthers 7-3 at Honda Center on Tuesday night. The Cats began a four-game road trip. The Ducks now have a four-game winning streak. 
     In the first period, Anaheim(8-3-1) mounted a 1-0 lead at 3:09. Leo Carlsson sent a long lead pass from his own zone. Cutter Gauthier sprinted into the Panthers zone on a breakaway and snapped a shot from the slot area past Sergei Bobrovsky for his eighth goal of the campaign. 
     Florida(6-6-1) answered back at 10:14 to tie it up 1-1. Jeff Petry cleared the puck out of his zone. Brad Marchand raced in from the red line on a breakaway and eventually lifted a wrist shot from the low slot by Lukas Dostal for his seventh goal of the season. He extended his point streak to five games. 
     The Ducks regained the lead 2-1 on the power play with 4:43 left in the first. Troy Terry zipped a cross-ice pass from the left side and Gauthier blasted a one-time slap shot from the right-circle dot for his second tally of the contest. 
     The Panthers evened it up 2-2 at the 5:21 mark of the second period. Gustav Forsling pushed the puck ahead and Mackie Samoskevich connected a lead pass from the neutral zone. Evan Rodrigues drove past the defense at the Ducks blue line and placed in a wrist shot from the slot for his third goal this season.    
     The Cats took a 3-2 lead on the man advantage with 9:23 remaining in the second. Sam Bennett backhanded a pass from the right corner. Rodrigues centered a pass from the left of the crease. Eetu Luostatinen tapped the puck in from the top of the crease for his second tally in 2025-26. 
     Gauthier picked up a hat trick for Anaheim on a power-play goal to make it 3-3 with 4:24 to go in the second. They moved ahead 4-3 with 2:41 left in the period on a goal by Nikita Nesterenko. 
     The Ducks increased it to 5-3 with 8:17 remaining in the third period. Mason McTavish released a shot from the right point which was saved. Jacob Trouba put the rebound in from the top of the crease. 
     Anaheim made it 7-3 on two more goals late in the third. Chris Kreider scored with 6:39 to go and Jansen Harkins scored with 5:13 left.
