The #2 American Heritage Patriots got revenge on the #1 Archbishop McCarthy Mavericks 25-20 in the FHSAA Class 4A regional finals on Friday night in Fort Lauderdale. It was a District 15 rematch between both high schools.
Archbishop McCarthy(10-3) eased out to a 7-0 advantage in the first quarter. The Patriots came up with a safety and were behind 7-2. American Heritage(7-5) leaped to a 9-7 lead as they reached the end zone during the second quarter. The Mavericks retook the lead 13-9 later in the frame. The Patriots scored again to lead 16-13, however Archbishop McCarthy answered back to make it 20-16 before the end of the first half.
American Heritage had the only points during the third quarter with a field goal and they were down 20-19. The Pats increased it to 25-20 with a touchdown midway through the fourth quarter.
