The #2 Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs stopped the #1 Immaculata-La Salle Royal Lions 20-17 in the FHSAA Class 2A regional finals on Friday night. The contest was played in Dade County.
Cardinal Gibbons(10-3) got off to a 7-3 start in the opening quarter. The Chiefs extended it to 14-3 in the second quarter. Immaculata-La Salle(12-1) closed the gap to 14-10 by halftime with a touchdown late in the second.
The Royal Lions overtook their opponent 17-14 in the first minute of the third quarter. The Chiefs moved in front 20-17 on a touchdown with two minutes left in the third.
