Inter Miami CF dominated FC Cincinnati 4-0 at TQL Stadium in the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Sunday. The Herons advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals of the MLS Cup Playoffs for the first time in franchise history. They will have home-field advantage for the remainder of the postseason.
The Herons will host New York City FC in the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday. NYCFC eliminated Inter Miami CF at Citi Field in the 2022 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals.
Inter Miami CF took a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute. Mateo Silvetti crossed the ball from the left side and Lionel Messi placed in a header into the right side of the cage from eight yards out.
In the second half, the Herons extended their lead to 2-0 in the 57th minute of play. Messi angled a pass to his left and Silvetti one-timed a 16-yard shot with his right foot.
It became 3-0 for Inter Miami CF during the 62nd minute. Messi sent a long lead pass from midfield. Tadeo Allende went on a breakaway and fired a right-footed shot from 15 yards out.
FC Cincinnati surrendered another goal in the 74th minute and trailed 4-0. Allende received another lead pass for a breakaway and he put in a right-footed shot from 11 yards. Messi compiled his third assist in the contest.
