The #1 St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders knocked off the #4 Coconut Creek Cougars 45-13 in a FHSAA Class 5A regional semifinal at Simmons Family Field in Fort Lauderdale on Friday night. The Raiders are three victories away from their state-record seventh consecutive state title and 17th overall state championship.
St. Thomas Aquinas(11-1) moved out to a 10-0 advantage in the first quarter. Coconut Creek(9-3) answered back late in the quarter and trailed 10-7. STA added a touchdown in the second quarter and led 17-7 at halftime.
The Raiders expanded their lead to 31-7 by the end of three quarters. Both teams combined for 20 points during the fourth quarter.
