The first round of the 2025 FHSAA Playoffs occurred last week. 30 high schools from Palm Beach County, Broward County and Dade County advanced to the next round.
Class 7A in Region 3 saw #7 Dr. Phillips upset #2 Jupiter 24-21. #3 Fort Pierce Central edged #6 Palm Beach Central 28-27 while #1 Vero Beach destroyed #8 East Ridge 57-10.
In Region 4, #1 Miami Palmetto blanked #8 Coral Glades 42-0. #2 Spanish River got by #7 Western 23-21. #5 Columbus surprised #4 Santaluces 28-3 and #3 Goleman slipped by #6 South Dade 30-28.
Class 6A in Region 4 ended up with several blowouts. #1 Southridge shut out #8 Nova 49-0, #3 Monarch punished #6 Doral Academy 39-0, #2 West Broward walloped #7 South Plantation 56-13 and #5 Piper squeezed by #4 Flanagan 24-12. Region 3 had #2 West Boca Raton bust through #7 Largo 35-7.
Region 4 in Class 5A resulted in #1 St. Thomas Aquinas stomping #8 Heritage 58-7. #2 Atlantic dominated #7 North Miami 55-0 and #4 Coconut Creek outbattled #5 Mater Academy 49-20. #6 McArthur went on the road and upended #3 Martin County 41-13.
Class 4A in Region 4 had #1 Archbishop McCarthy beat #8 Hialeah 49-6 and #4 Miami Norland defeat #5 Jensen Beach 49-14. #2 American Heritage shelled #7 John Carroll Catholic 50-20 while #6 Plantation held off #3 Dillard 21-14.
Region 4 in Class 3A saw #1 Miami Northwestern pound #8 Somerset Academy 70-0. #2 Miami Central dismantled #7 St. Brendan 70-0 and #4 Key West outscored #5 Cypress Lake 44-34.
In Region 3 of Class 2A, #3 Glades Central outdueled #6 The King's Academy 23-6 while #2 Lakewood downed #7 Somerset Academy Canyons 52-7. #1 Cardinal Mooney canned #8 North Broward Prep 55-7 and #5 Bishop Verot forged by 22-14.
Region 4 happened to have #2 Cardinal Gibbons taking #7 Monsignor Pace 48-28. #3 Miami Killian stepped over #6 Carol City 38-21, #5 Ransom Everglades survived #4 Gulliver Prep 20-13 and #1 Immaculata-La Salle took Somerset Academy Silver Palms 42-7.
Class 1A in Region 4 had #1 Chaminade-Madonna dominate #8 St. John Paul II 63-0. #4 Miami Edison hammered #5 Westminster Christian 50-7, #3 St. Andrew's solved #6 Archbishop Carroll 54-20 and #2 True North Academy outhustled #7 Palmer Trinity 42-17. In Region 3, #2 Cardinal Newman blanked #7 Benjamin 37-0.
There was just one game in South Florida for Class Rural. #5 Pahokee was able to outpower over #12 Fort Meade 43-28.
