Panthers Leap Canucks

     The Florida Panthers drove by the Vancouver Canucks 8-5 at Amerant Bank Arena on Monday night. The Cats, who snapped a four-game losing streak to the Canucks, continued their long homestand. Panther goalie Sergei Bobrovsky passed Jacques Plante for ninth all-time in NHL history with 438 wins.
     Vancouver(9-10-1) got out to a 1-0 lead with 5:10 left in the first period. Quinn Hughes made a square pass from the right point and Tyler Myers blasted a slap shot from the top of the zone wide left of the net. Drew O'Connor brought the puck from the end wall and slipped a shot from the right goal line past Sergei Bobrovsky for his sixth goal of the campaign. 
      The Canucks expanded their lead to 2-0 on the power play just 24 seconds later. Hughes passed from the left point and Kiefer Sherwood zipped a pass from the left corner. Jake DeBrusk stuffed a shot from the right side of the crease for his eighth goal in 2025-26.
      Florida(10-8-1) closed it to 2-1 with 4:10 to go in the period. Sam Bennett dropped a pass above the right circle. Carter Verhaeghe centered it from the top right circle and A.J. Greer snapped a shot from the high slot past Jiri Patera for his fourth tally this year. 
      The Panthers tied it up 2-2 on a power-play goal with 7.7 seconds remaining in the first. Seth Jones scored his second goal of the season with a snap shot from the low right circle. Sam Reinhart and Bobrovsky were credited with assists on the play.
      The Cats jumped to their first lead of the contest 3-2 at the 2:23 mark of the second period. Gustav Forsling angled a pass from the right point to the left corner. Noah Gregor carried the puck through the left circle and the slot area. He backhanded the puck from the low right circle and Luke Kunin tapped in a shot from the blue paint for his first goal with his new team. Gregor collected his first point in a Florida Panthers jersey. 
      Florida got two more goals to increase their lead to 5-2. Evan Rodrigues put in his fifth goal while the team was shorthanded at 6:10. Anton Lundell would collect his fifth goal this season with a snap shot from the low left circle at 7:17.
      Vancouver cut the deficit to 5-3 at the 7:55 mark. Hughes forwarded the puck from center ice. Evander Kane sent a diagonal pass from the top right circle and Elias Petterson placed in a wrist shot from the low left circle for his fifth goal of the season. 
       In the third period, the Canucks made it 5-4 at 1:24. Sherwood centered the puck from the right wing. Petterson lifted a backhand shot from the low right circle for his second goal of the contest. 
      They tied it 5-5 with the man advantage at the 3:14 mark of the third. Max Sasson connected a cross-ice pass from the left-circle dot and Filip Hronek put in a forehand shot from the crease area for his first tally of the year. 
       The Panthers responded and reclaimed the lead 6-5 at 4:02. Niko Mikkola took a slap shot from the left point and Bennett redirected it in from the inner left circle for his fourth goal of the campaign.    
       It became 7-5 for Florida on a power-play goal with 11:41 left in the third period. Verhaeghe pushed the puck forward from the high slot. Reinhart passed from the left goal line and Jones snapped a shot from the inner right circle for his second goal of the game. 
       Florida increased it to 8-5 with 1:46 remaining in the third. Brad Marchand picked up an empty-net goal and extended his point streak to 11 games.
