Flames Flash Panthers

The Florida Panthers were burned by the Calgary Flames 5-3 at Amerant Bank Arena on Friday. The Panthers continued their six-game homestand in Sunrise. The Flames have the second-worst record in the NHL.
Florida(12-11-1) raced out to a 2-0 lead early in the first period. They took a 1-0 lead 29 seconds into the contest when Evan Rodrigues snapped a shot from the top of the crease for his seventh goal of the campaign following a lead pass from Sam Reinhart.
It became 2-0 for the Panthers at the 2:58 mark. A.J. Greer made a cross-ice pass from above the left circle. Sam Bennett paid back his former team as he placed in a forehand shot from crease area for his sixth goal this season.
Calgary(9-14-3) would answer back with two goals before the end of the period to tie it 2-2.  Yan Kuznetsov picked up his first NHL goal on a wrist shot from high slot past Daniil Tarasov at 5:35.
MacKenzie Weegar burned his former club with his first tally of the year with 9:19 remaining in the first. He fired a slap shot from above the right circle.
The second period belonged to the Flames as they increased it to 4-2. They got a 5-on-3 power-play goal 55 seconds into the frame when Morgan Frost backhanded a shot from the left side of the crease for his sixth goal in 2025-26.
Calgary had a two-goal margin 4-2 with 1:16 left in the second. Nazem Kadri redirected a Rasmus Andersson shot from the right point inside the crease area for his fifth goal of the season.
In the third period, the Cats closed it to 4-3 with 8:06 remaining. Reinhart angled a pass from the right wing and Brad Marchand collected his team-high 15th goal with a wrist shot from the high slot past Devin Cooley.
Florida pulled their goalie for an extra attacker with 2:42 to go. Joel Farabee shot the puck into an empty net from the neutral zone for his seventh goal this year with 1:03 left in the third to give the Flames a 5-3 lead.
