Hurricanes Upset By SMU

     The University of Miami Hurricanes were upended by the Southern Methodist University Mustangs 26-20 in overtime on Saturday at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas. Both schools did not face each other in ACC play last year. It was the first time the Mustangs defeated an Associated Press Top 10 team at home since 1974.
     Miami(6-2, 2-2) moved out to a 7-0 lead with 4:16 remaining in first quarter. Carson Beck fired a 36-yard touchdown pass to Joshisa Trader on the right hash marks.
     SMU(6-3, 4-1) evened it up 8-7 at the 9:22 mark of the second quarter. Kevin Jennings connected a 28-yard touchdown strike to Yamir Knight.
     The Canes reclaimed the lead 10-7 with seven seconds to go in the first half. Carter Davis was able.to boot a 22-yard field goal. 
     The Mustangs jumped to a 14-10 advantage at 12:11 of the third quarter. Jennings rushed the ball in from three yards away.
     The Hurricanes took a 17-14 lead with 9:06 left in the third. Beck made a four-yard touchdown toss to Alex Bauman. SMU tied it up 17-17 with seven seconds remaining in the quarter on a Sam Keltner 43-yard field goal.  
     Carter gave The U a 20-17 edge at the 9:34 mark of the fourth quarter with a 46-yard field goal. Keltner matched it with 25 seconds left in the fourth on a 38-yard field goal to tie it 20-20.
      In overtime, Beck had a pass intercepted by Ahmaad Moses when Miami possessed the ball. T.J. Harden ran the ball through the left side of the line into the end zone from one yard out through the left side for the Mustangs to win the game.
