2017 FHSAA Football Brackets

     The FHSAA announced the 2017 football playoff brackets from Class 1A to Class 8A on Sunday. The South Florida region had plenty of representatives in all eight classifications. The postseason will begin later on this week and the championship games will be held at Camping World Stadium in Orlando from December 7 until December 9.
     Nobody dropped out of playoff contention in the final week of play for small schools from South Florida in Class 1A to Class 4A. All the schools that were in the top four in the playoff point standings after Week 10 qualified for a playoff spot after the final regular season games were played this past week.
     Pahokee won the Muck Bowl for the second straight year over Glades Central and claimed the top seed of Class 1A in Section 4. They will host #4 Williston in a regional semifinal at Anquan Boldin Stadium.
     Class 2A of Region 4 has two local schools represented. Champagnat is the #2 seed and will host #3 St. John Neumann. #4 Glades Day will visit #1 Moore Haven.
     South Florida schools are in two regions of Class 3A. In Region 2, #3 Kings Academy will face #2 Oxbridge Academy at William H. Pitt Stadium in a regional semifinal. The teams in Region 4 will have #4 American Heritage travel to #1 Chaminade-Madonna while #2 Benjamin will host #3 Everglades Prep.
     Region 4 of Class 4A has two former district rivals go at it in a regional semifinal at Davie as #4 Glades Central faces #1 University School. The other contest has #3 Key West head up north and challenge #2 Monsignor Pace.
     Almost all large schools in South Florida from Class 5A to Class 8A that were a top eight seed during the Week 10 playoff point standings qualified for the postseason. The only schools that dropped out were Suncoast in Class 5A and Douglas in Class 8A.
     #1 American Heritage begins their Class 5A title defense in Region 4 at Heritage Field in Plantation against #8 Merritt Island in a regional quarterfinal. The other local school has #6 Cardinal Gibbons travel up to Orlando and face #3 Jones.
     Dade County is represented by four different schools from District 16 in Class 6A of Region 4. #1 Miami Northwestern hosts #8 Matanzas while #5 Miami Central visits #4 Palm Bay Heritage. The regional quarterfinal will two local schools has defending Class 6A #6 Carol City going to play #3 Dillard at Otis Gray Jr. Memorial Stadium. #7 Norland travels up to Daytona Beach against #2 Mainland.
     Class 7A in Region 4 has the three-time defending Class 7A state champion #1 St. Thomas Aquinas host #8 South Miami in a regional quarterfinal. #7 Mater Academy makes the long drive to Palm Beach Gardens and challenges #2 Dwyer at Blum Stadium. #5 Forest Hill plays their first playoff game since 1996 at #4 West Broward while #3 Doral Academy hosts #6 Nova.
     In Class 8A of Region 3, the Miramar upset win over St. Thomas Aquinas vaulted them to the top seed and will host #8 Park Vista, who jumped back into a top eight seed. #5 Plantation goes to Delray Beach to play #4 Atlantic at War Eagle Stadium while #2 Deerfield Beach hosts #7 Western at Butler Stadium. District rivals in Palm Beach County will meet again as #6 Seminole Ridge heads for #3 Palm Beach Central.
     Region 4 has #1 Columbus hosting #8 Homestead. There was a three-way tie in District 16 and #2 Palmetto won the crown with the highest average playoff points. They will host #7 Miami while defending Class 8A state champion #6 Southridge is at #3 Belen Jesuit and #5 South Dade travels to #4 North Miami.
