The Los Angeles Kings blanked the Florida Panthers 4-0 at Staples Center on Saturday. It was the second game for the Cats of a three-game California road trip. They return home following their Sunday game against Anaheim. The Kings were able to stop a four-game losing streak with the victory.
In the first period, Los Angeles(12-6-2) moved out to a 1-0 lead with 11:46 left in the first period on a delayed penalty. Dustin Brown backhanded the puck ahead to Drew Doughty in the low left circle. He snapped a pass across the crease and Tyler Toffoli tapped a one-time shot by James Reimer for his ninth goal of the season.
The Kings would score at 2:23 of the third period to go up 2-0. Johny Brozinski scored his first NHL goal as he lifted a backhand shot into the top shelf of the Panthers cage. Nic Dowd and former Panther Jussi Jokinen were credited with assists on the play.
Florida(7-10-2) surrendered another goal with 4:41 remaining in the third period. Toffoli made a backhand pass toward the crease area. Andy Andreoff stopped it and put in a snap shot from close range. Trevor Lewis added an unassisted goal into an emptry net from the low slot with 2:53 to go.
