2017 FHSAA Playoffs Third Round Results

     The third round of the FHSAA playoffs occurred and 15 South Florida high schools played. There were three schools from Palm Beach County, six schools from Broward County and six schools from Dade County.
     Looking at the small school classifications, Pahokee fell one game short of the Class 1A championship game as Madison County gained revenge from last year's state semifinal with a 28-10 win. Champagnat Catholic punched their ticket to Orlando for the Class 2A state title game as they blanked Cambridge Christian 38-0 on the road.
     Two South Florida high schools will represent the south and north brackets of the Class 3A state championship on December 9. Chaminade-Madonna will return to Orlando for the second straight year as they traveled to Clearwater Central Catholic and blew them out 49-3. Oxbridge Academy played their third consecutive home playoff game and shut out Florida State University 38-0. Tbe defending Class 4A state champion Cocoa took University School 49-14.
     In the large school classifications, Class 5A had a classic regional final between district rivals as American Heritage survived Cardinal Gibbons 58-57 in triple overtime. The Stallions will play their fourth straight home game next week and host Immakolee next week. Defending Class 6A state champion Carol City was knocked off by district rival Miami Northwestern 23-15 at Traz Powell Stadium. The Bulls will remain home and be challenged by Naples next week in the state semifinal. St. Thomas Aquinas had no problems at home as they pounded Doral Academy 48-6 in a Class 7A regional final. The three-time defending champions head north next week and face Venice.
     The Class 8A regional final in Region 3 saw Atlantic get by Western 35-22. Miami stunned Columbus as they came back to win 28-22 in Region 4. Atlantic will host Miami in Delray Beach next week in the state semifinal.
