The Glades Central Raiders head down to Davie and face the University School Sharks in a Class 4A regional semifinal on Friday night. They met each other in the season opener earlier this year in Belle Glade and the Raiders lost 13-7. Both schools did play in the same district for the last four years until the playoff point standings was created in 2017 and that eliminated district play between small schools.
Glades Central(6-3) needs to bounced back from an overtime defeat to Pahokee last week in the Muck Bowl. The Raiders had a four-game winning streak prior to that game. They have averaged 32 points in their last five games and outscored their last five opponents 164-72.
The Raiders have Davious Richards at quarterback and he can throw the ball all over the field to wide receivers Dejuan Miller, Jymetre Hester, Kamare Stephens, O.J. Hilaire and Mohammad Shatara. Most of their carries from the backfield will be done by running back Steve Barrett and Waymond Jones can be used on screen plays.
University School(7-1) won their first seven games of the regular season and received their first loss last week at Chaminade-Madonna. The Sharks have defeated playoff-bound teams Monsignor Pace, Delray American Heritage, Everglades Prep and Champagnat Catholic. They averaged 28 points per contest at a pace of 171-92 during their first six games of the season.
The Sharks have quarterback George Bubrick who is a pocket passer and rarely runs with the ball. Their rushing game consists of running backs Kenny McIntosh and Michael Hurt. Bubrick has several targets with wide receivers Zay Flowers, Joshua Sanguinetti, Jordan Irizarry and Christian Wells.
