The American Heritage Patriots host the Immakolee Indians at Heritage Field in Plantation on Friday night. The winner of the Class 5A state semifinal will play in the state championship game on December 8 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
Immakolee(12-0) is undefeated this season and will play their first playoff game on the road. They lost in the playoffs to the Patriots in 2013 and 2014 which led to two state titles for American Heritage. The Indians have outscored their opponents 582-171 this year and have averaged 48 points per contest. They shut out Booker 54-0 in a regional quarterfinal, handled Dunbar 51-32 in a regional semifinal and defeated Lakewood 42-14 in a regional final.
The Indians offense has R.J. Rosales at quarterback and he can either run or pass with the ball. They have a steady crew of running backs with Fred Green, former American Heritage player Abraham Alce and Malcom Jackson. Wide receivers Shedro Louis, Jordan Hall and Yanavis Fuller intend to catch the ball from Rosales.
American Heritage(11-0) are the defending FHSAA Class 5A state champions and have won the state title in three of the last four years. The Patriots have won 25 consecutive games entering this contest and have not lost a game since the 2015 playoffs against Hallandale. They blanked Merritt Island 52-0 in a regional quarterfinal, pounded Bishop Moore 56-27 in a regional semifinal, and edged Cardinal Gibbons 58-57 in triple overtime last week in a regional final. The Pats have outscored their opponents 477-154 this season and averaged 43 points per game.
Cameron Smith starts at quarterback and leads the Patriots offense. They have a bunch of running backs to depend on that includes Jordan Johnson, Tyler Jones and Miles Jones. Smith will look for wide receivers Anthony Schwartz, Marcus Lodge, Josh Alexander, Tyler March and Miles Jones down the field for completions.
