The Florida Panthers fell to the New Jersey Devils 2-1 on Saturday night at Prudential Center. The Panthers finished a three-game road trip and return home to Sunrise for one game against the Dallas Stars on Tuesday before they head out to California for three more games.
The Devils got out to a 1-0 lead six minutes into the first period. Former Panther Jimmy Hayes fed Damon Severson for a tally past James Reimer and his second goal of the year.
New Jersey(10-4-2) extended their margin to 2-1 at the 4:58 mark. Kyle Palmieri put in a power-play goal with assists credited to Will Butcher and Nico Hischier.
Florida(5-9-2) had to wait until 12:40 left in the second to break the shutout. Nick Bjugstad scored his third goal of the season by Cory Schneider on an assist by Michael Matheson.
