It is a rematch between District 16 rivals as the Miami Central Rockets battle it out against the Miami Northwestern Bulls at Traz Powell Stadium in a Class 6A regional semifinal on Friday night. The Bulls stopped the Rockets 21-7 back in Week 9.
After a defeat to Miami Northwestern, Miami Central(9-2) knocked off Carol City 26-13 in the regular season finale and routed Hertiage 42-6 in a regional quarterfinal last week. They have outscored their opponents 357-151 this year and scored 32 points per game.
The Rockets, who won four consecutive FHSAA Class 6A state titles from 2012 to 2015, expect to hand the ball off to running back James Cook for the majority of rushes. Wide receivers Terrell Perriman, Zeryus Coleman and Seth McGill look to make pass receptions from quarterback Maurice Underwood.
Miami Northwestern((8-2) have shut out their last two opponents after a one-point defeat to Norland in Week 9. They pounded Jackson 40-0 in the regular season finale and then smashed Matanzas 33-0 last week in a regional quarterfinal. They have outscored their opponents 269-77 and allowed seven points per game this season.
Quarterback Chatarius Atwell Jr. gets to lead the Bulls offense on to the field. Most of the rushing plays out of the backfield will be done by running back Corey Hammett. Wide receivers Derrick Davis and Justin Hill need to handle catches downfield from Atwell.
