The Western Wildcats visit the Deerfield Beach Bucks at Butler Stadium in a regional quarterfinal on Friday night. It is a battle between two Broward County schools in Class 8A.
Western(8-2) won their first six games of the regular season then lost two of their next three games to Plantation and Miramar by a combined eight points. The Wildcats outscored their opponents 323-120 this year. They won their season finale over Cooper City last week.
Harrison Story calls the signals at quarterback for the Wildcats offense. Running backs Keshaun Clarke and Daniel Colon will split the carries for the team. Wide receivers Jordan Smith, Steffen Fernand and Jaeden Fagan look to get open for Story.
Deerfield Beach(8-2) have won five straight games since a shutout road loss to St. Thomas Aquinas. They compiled four shutouts this season and defeated Carol City, Dillard, Blanche Ely and Douglas on their schedule. The Bucks have outscored their opponents 351-80 and averaged 35 points for and eight points against this season. They outscored their last five teams they faced 245-14.
The Bucks have a strong power attack from the backfield with running backs Jakari Norwood and Jaylan Knighton. Quarterback Kyle Kaplan will be counted on to fire passes to wide receivers Donte Banton, Daejeun McDougle, Jaycob Williams and Cornelius McCoy.
