The ratings came out for sports format radio stations in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale market and Miami Sports Radio 560 WQAM-AM was on top for the fourth consecutive month. The South Florida region is set for a major change on the local airwaves.
It was the final period where WQAM and Sports Talk 790 The Ticket WAXY-AM will have different owners. Both their parent corporations CBS Radio and Entercom Communications finally were able to merge together after the approval of the United States government and shareholders.
WQAM rose from a 1.1 to a 1.4 in November. The University of Miami Hurricanes football team remained undefeated, clinched their first ACC Coastal Division title and will play in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game. The Miami Dolphins losing five straight games over the month and a bad start by the Florida Panthers had no impact.
The Ticket moved from a 0.9 to a 1.0 in the month. The Miami Heat have been an average team in the early part of the NBA season. The station will need find a temporary fill-in for evening host Josh Friedman who was hosting his final shows of the year.
Miami Sports Radio 940 WINZ-AM stayed in the same position with a 0.2 for the fifth consecutive month. They continue to rely on local shows with Jeff DeForest in morning drive and Andy Slater in mid-afternoons.
