The Miami Heat lost to the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors 97-80 on Monday night at Oracle Arena. The Warriors have won six of the last seven meetings between both clubs. It was the third game of a six-game road trip for the Heat.
Golden State(8-3) began the first four minutes of the game on an 8-2 sput and scored the last seven points of the quarter to go up 22-21 after one. The Warriors finished the second quarter on a 16-3 run and led 50-37 at halftime. It was the lowest scoring first half of the season for Miami(4-6) as they turned the ball over 12 times.
The Warriors extended their way to a 20-point margin less than two minutes into the third quarter and moved ahead 60-40. The Heat were down 75-57 at the end of the quarter. Miami did not give up in the fourth quarter as they scored 10 unanswered points and were behind 80-70 with 7:05 to go. It would be the closest that they would come to take the lead as Golden State responded with ten straight points and made it 90-70.
James Johnson fell short of a double-double for the Heat with 21 points and nine rebounds while Goran Dragic added 19 points.
The Warriors were led by Kevin Durant as he compiled 21 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Stephen Curry put together 16 points and six rebounds while Draymond Green also missed a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds. Klay Thompson was able to drain 13 points for Golden State.
