The Atlantic Eagles hosts the Plantation Colonels at War Eagle Stadium in Delray Beach on Friday night in a Class 8A regional quarterfinal. Both schools have consistently been in the postseason during this decade.
Plantation(9-1) returns to the FHSAA playoff after a one-year absence. They won every game this year with the exception of a defeat to district rival Miramar. The Colonels did top West Broward, Blanche Ely and Western earlier this season. They have outscored their opponents 342-145 and averaged 34 points per game this year.
Roshard Branch is the quarterback and leads the Colonels offense. He will attempt to connect passes to wide receivers Jamari Sweet, Stefahn Justin, Tyrik Bellamy and Robzel Sylvester. All the receivers can run the ball with the wing-t offense and with running backs Michael Cheley and Kyle Walters.
Atlantic(8-1) lost their season opener to Palm Beach Central by one point. Since then the Eagles have piled up eight consecutive victories with wins over Dwyer, Park Vista, Boca Raton and Wellington. They have outscored their opponents 258-65 and averaged 28 points for along with seven points against per game this season.
The Eagles have two running backs. who transferred to the school during the summer, that can have an impact. Shelley Singletary came from Boca Raton and Corey Cola Jr. came from Park Vista. Another person who transferred in from Dwyer is receiver Varrick Lurry-Davis. He is part of a wide receivers crew with Corey Gammage, Cadarius Gaskin, Javone Jackson, Aydin Henningham and Kamareon Williams who will pass receptions from quarterback Antoine Williams II.
