The Miami Stingarees visit Delray Beach and take on the Atlantic Eagles in a Class 8A state semifinal on Friday night. The winner of this game will play in the championship game on December 9 at Camping World Stadium in Orlando.
Miami(11-1) was a seventh seed in Region 4 and have won three straight road playoff games along with eight straight overall. The Stingarees blanked Palmetto 28-0 in a regional quarterfinal, knocked off the defending FHSAA Class 8A state champion Southridge in a regional semifinal 27-21 and came back from 22 points to upset Columbus 28-22 last week in a regional final. They have outscored their opponents 485-182 this season and scored 40 points per game.
The Stingarees have Isaias Castellon in the quarterback position and he will throw passes to wide receivers Lamont Finnie, Bernard Marshall, Marcus Flemming and Keythan Drayton. Look for running back Johnny Ford to carry the ball along with Marcus Barthell.
Atlantic(11-1) play in a state semifinal for the first time since 2001. The Eagles last two seasons ended following a loss in a regional final game. They have won their last 11 games following an opening week defeat to Palm Beach Central by one point. Atlantic has outscored their opponents 336-108 and held teams to nine points this year. They beat Plantation 29-14 in a regional quarterfinal, got by Park Vista 14-7 in a regional semifinal and defeated Western 35-22 in a regional final.
Running back Shelley Singletary is expected to get the majority of carries from the backfield along with Corey Cola Jr. Quarterback Antoine Williams II can roll out of the pocket and find wide receivers Corey Gammage, Oyeh Lurry-Davis, Cadarius Gaskin, Kamareon Williams, Javone Jackson and Aydin Henningham for pass receptions.
