The Miami Hurricanes pounded the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 41-8 at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night. It is rivalry that has been renewed over the last two years through past tradition.
Both teams entered the contest in the top ten of college football polls. The Hurricanes clinched the Coastal Division and win face the Clemson Tigers in the ACC Championship Game on December 2 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Miami(9-0) scored 34 unanswered points before Notre Dame(8-2) could get into the end zone. The Hurricanes controlled the play on the field and raced out to a 27-0 lead by halftime.
The Canes began the rout at 4:07 of the first quarter when quarterback Malik Rosier found wide receiver Braxton Berrios on the right side of the end zone on a seven-yard touchdown pass. On their next possession, Rosier ran up the middle and scored from 16 yards away at the 2:40 mark to make it 14-0.
In the second quarter, Michael Badgley booted a 23-yard field goal and a 30-yard field goal by the midway point. Notre Dame quarterback Ian Brook threw an interception and Trajan Bandy returned it 65 yards for the score and Miami extended their margin to 27-0 with 34 seconds left in the second.
The Hurricanes continued to roll in the third quarter. DeeJay Dallas rushed the ball for a touchdown from four yards out at the 10:37 mark.
The Fighting Irish finally broke the shutout with 12 seconds remaining in the quarter. Quarterback Brandon Wimbush fired a 14-yard touchdown pass to tight end Alize Mack. Wimbush added a two-point conversion run and brought the score to 34-8.
The Canes capped the wipeout with 4:39 to go in the fourth quarter. Dallas again rumbled in on a four-yard touchdown run to expand the Hurricanes lead to 41-8.
