It is another rematch on Friday night between District 10 local rivals as the Park Vista Cobras challenge the Atlantic Eagles in a Class 8A regional semifinal at War Eagle Stadium in Delray Beach. Both teams faced each other on the same field earlier this season in Week 5 and the Eagles edged the Cobras 10-3 in a defensive battle.
Park Vista(8-2) pulled off a major upset last week as they defeated the top seed in Region 4 Miramar 28-20 in a regional quarterfinal. The Cobras are on a seven-game winning streak and have not lost a game since Atlantic. They have outscored their opponents 285-52 in their last seven games.
Quarterback John Smith will call the signals for the Cobras on offense and his primary target on pass plays is wide receiver Atorian Perry. Running backs Nick King and Camron Mann will split the rushes from the backfield. Wide receivers Rishon Patrick and Lucas Deininger along with Smith can also make catches from backup quarterback Tyler Thomas.
After losing their season opener to Palm Beach Central by one point, Atlantic(9-1) have won nine consecutive games. The Eagles beat Plantation 29-14 in a regional quarterfinal last week. They have outscored their opponents 287-79 and averaged seven points against per game this season.
The Eagles can evenly run and pass the ball on offense. Running backs Shelley Singletary and Corey Cola Jr., a transfer from Park Vista, are expected to get their share carries for the team. Quarterback Antoine Williams II can throw the ball anywhere on the field to wide receivers Corey Gammage, Cadarius Gaskin, Varrick Lurry-Davis, Javone Jackson, Aydin Henningham and Kamareon Williams.
