The Florida Panthers fell to the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 at BB&T Center on Saturday night. The Panthers had shut out the Blackhawks during their last two appearances in South Florida as they outscored them 11-0.
That streak came to an end when Chicago(11-8-3) scored at 9:25 of the first period. Tommy Wingels circled around the Panthers cage and centered the puck to the low slot. John Hayden snapped a shot by Roberto Luongo for a 1-0 lead.
The Blackhawks made it a two-goal margin with 5:25 left in the first. Jonathan Toews was in the right circle and passed to the crease area where Brandon Saad redirected it in for eighth goal of the season. The Cats were outshot in the first period 21-7.
In the second period, Florida(8-12-2) answered back at 1:06. Jared McCann fired a high wrist shot from the hight slot past Corey Crawford. Evgenii Dadonov and Jonathan Huberdeau were credited with assists on the play.
The Hawks stopped the momentum at 7:03 of the second. Toews got to the Panthers blue line and passed to his right. Patrick Kane received it and skated to the low right circle. He curled to the face-off dot and ripped in a shot for his ninth goal and 22nd point of the season.
Chicago extended their lead to 4-1 with 2:52 remaining in the second. Toews hit a puck in mid-air from the slot and it went between the legs of Lunogo for the tally.
