The second round of the FHSAA playoffs happened and 24 high schools represented South Florida. There were seven from Palm Beach County, seven from Broward County and ten from Dade County.
In the small school classifications, Pahokee beat Frostproof 42-28 in a Class 1A regional final for Region 4. Champagnat Catholic went on the road and blew away Moore Haven 47-0 for Region 4 in a Class 2A regional final.
Class 3A had two local high school advance. Oxbridge Academy handled Melbourne Central Catholic 32-7 in a Region 2 regional final game. Region 4 had Chaminade-Madonna blast Benjamin 56-0. The Class 4A regional final in Region 4 saw University School edge Monsignor Pace 42-39.
The large school classifications saw many South Florida teams win over teams from out of the local region. The best examples were regional semifinals in Region 4 of Class 5A. Top seed American Heritage defeated Bishop Moore 56-27 while Cardinal Gibbons slipped by Rockledge 19-14.
Class 6A of Region 4 was impacted by schools from District 16. Miami Northwestern held off Miami Central 24-18 and Carol City dropped Mainland 17-10 in regional semifinals. St. Thomas Aquinas continued their quest in Region 4 for a fourth straight Class 7A with a 38-7 victory over West Broward in Region 4. Doral Academy barely got past Dwyer 6-5 in a regional semifinal.
Atlantic stopped Park Vista 14-7 in a battle of District 10 schools in Region 3 of Class 8A. Western was in a regional semifinal and upset Palm Beach Central 14-12. Region 4 consisting of Dade County schools had top seed Columbus beat South Dade 28-14 while Miami knocked off the defending Class 8A state champion Southridge 27-21.
