The Park Vista Cobras travel 45 miles to southwest Broward County and challenge the Miramar Patriots on Friday night in a Class 8A regional quarterfinal. Both schools have never met each other in the FHSAA playoffs.
Park Vista(7-2) was on the outside the playoff picture entering the season finale and were eventually listed as a qualifier for the postseason this past Sunday. They began the season 1-2 with an overtime loss to Dwyer and a close loss to Atlantic. They followed the bad start with six straight victories in which they averaged 43 points per game during that span and outscored their last six opponents 257-32.
The Cobras have a capable passing game with quarterback John Smith and backup Tyler Thomas. Wide receivers Atorian Perry, Rishon Patrick and Lucas Deininger are the main targets along with Smith when he is switched to slot receiver. Park Vista can change their rushing game with running back Camron Mann and Nick King.
Miramar(8-1) is the #1 seed in Region 3 and can host the first three rounds of the FHSAA playoffs. They were on the road last week and topped the three-time defending Class 7A state champion St. Thomas Aquinas. The Patriots have eight consecutive wins since they fell by one point in their season opener against Chaminade-Madonna. They have outscored their opponents 323-105 this season and averaged 35 points per game.
The Patriots quarterback Deon Jones can throw the ball to wide receivers Terrence Horne Jr., Abdul Ibrahim and Marden Sanon. They have running back Quino Mauricette in the backfield to carry the ball.
